The Birds will depart tomorrow early A.M to make the trip to Ironton Ohio. Start time is 10:00 a.m.

Go Birds!

Nice of Ironton to invite the Birds down. I think it’d be a good matchup between these two schools to do a varsity contest. Beechwood played down their at least once in the late 90s.

The night the lights went out.

We watched film on Beechwood and that was the game our coaches put on. Coach Yeagle brought that up at coaches clinic the following offseason that we got to “volunteer for”. He said something along the lines of “we’re running the ball all over them then the next thing you know they can’t afford their electric bill”. It got a huge laugh. Back when you could get away with stuff like that. Good luck Birds.

My back story, I live five minutes from Ironton. Had a few friends who were Ironton fans, the week before the game, they are telling me “we play some small school from Kentucky next week and we will kill them, we don’t know why we are playing them,”. I said, “ how, who is it?”  They said “Beechwood”. I told them they would have trouble winning that game. They laughter at me.  Then……the lights go out while they were losing to Beechwood.

That's a heckuva trip for a 10am JV game. I remember years ago when the Birds played up because of travel involved going to Harrison County or Rowan County lol.

I gotta believe the Birds got more out of this game then they would have if they played Campbell County!

Thanks to Ironton for making this happen for all the kids involved.

I agree, games like this are great for a football program.  Good job JV Birds and HHS staff for making this happen.

Heard there were a few highly questionable calls in this one.
