Top 10 team in 2A?!!

I’m sure Holy Cross has improved, but a top 10 team in 2A should not have lost this game tonight.

Usually I would agree. With that said, when you lose your two best players in the second half like Bracken did, it hurts. Especially when one is your QB and the other is one of the best running backs in the state. However, injuries is part of the game and Holy Cross made the plays to win the game.

How are Tarter and Benedict?  Can you share what the injuries appeared to be?

The fact it was 18-17 when they got hurt, tells me enough about them being overrated. Also, why onside kick when you are up 18-17? I’m sure Holy Cross is better than last year, but unless they are leaps and bounds better than last year, should a top 10 team in 2A, have even been in a dogfight with them? Hopefully Tarter and Benedict aren’t hurt too badly, and they both get back sooner than later.

Both will be out for several weeks. Tarter with a hamstring and Benedict with an ankle.

The bye week could not have been timed better.

Ryland Tucker, who came in at QB when Benedict got hurt, looked pretty solid.  1 of 3 on passing for 37 yards.  7 rushes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

I think it’s just hard to give Tarter and Benedict many plays off because of how valuable they are on both sides of the ball.

If I had to guess about the onside kick, it was about keeping the ball away from Thomas Maddox.  He returned the opening kick against St. Henry for a TD and Friday night against Bracken County, he did return one 24 yards.  On that return he was in the clear along the sidelines for another TD, but his momentum caused him to go out of bounds.  Another possibility is that maybe Bracken County "likes" to load up one side of the kick as something that do thinking the percentages are in their favor.  In this case, however, kicking to the athletic Max Hunt was not a good idea.  Huge turning point in the game.

Bracken County QB and linebacker Greg Benedict is out for the season with a broken tibia and fibula.  Surgery this week.  Ryland Tucker will be the new quarterback.

That’s terrible news to hear. Hate that for him and his teammates

Same with Breds82 here. Always hate hearing about life altering injuries like these. Soo much mental toughness is needed throughout the next several months and maybe even longer when dealing with injuries like this when your an invincible young man and in the blink of an eye the way your everyday life changes. Trials and tribulations. Bracken County is a tight knit place and I know he will have the full support of his community and everyone around him. Prayers to Benedict and his family that he bounces back even stronger as an athlete and a person.
