I remember Glasgow trailing Monroe Co. in 1990 26-0 in the second quarter and comeback and won 27-26. They also trailed Bardstown in the playoffs in 2021 28-6 in the first quarter and comeback and won. Their worst blown lead that I recall was in 1999 when they led the John Wesley Monin Bardstown team 24-0 at halftime and lost on a Hail Mary at the buzzer 27-24.

Somerset being down 31-28 to Mayfield, on their own 16 yard line, with 28 seconds to go and no timeouts, and winning the game on a 20 yard touchdown pass on an untimed down in the 2019 2A finals, for their first State Championship would have to be their greatest comeback.  There have certainly been larger deficits overcome, but no comeback meant as much.  

Not my comeback but saw NewCath beat Danville 37-34 in state championship 2008.  NewCath down 34-30 punted with less than 2 minutes deep into Admirals territory.  Game over, except NewCath stops Admirals and win with last gasp effort.  Specifics escape me except I thought Bob Schneider had lost the championship on that punt decision.  Great call Coach.  He knew his team.

Hope my years and opponents are correct.  It was truly Coach Schneider pulling a rabbit out of the hat.

I remember Mayfield in 2006 being down to Hoptown by 8 with 30 seconds left. 4th and 28 from the 30. Score a touchdown on the play. 2pt conversion fails. Mayfield kicks an onside and recovers. Runs 2 quick plays and then kicks a 45 yard FG as time expires to win by 1 point. Biggest collapse I remember was as stated above in the 2019 championship game to Somerset.

Not a Highlands guy, but this has to be the biggest comeback that I can ever recall in a High School game...

If memory serves me correctly, it was 42-7 at Halftime.

Now that would be a running clock and impossible to make a comeback. 

Will Stein's 2-minute drill in the '07 Finals to get to overtime is probably the first that comes to mind.

The 59-56 game would have been the let down portion of this, if not for Brian Smith!!

NewCath scored 17 points in the last 6 minutes or something. Danville had the game won, just needed a yard for a game ending first down. The QB/Crnter exchange was fumbled and NewCath recovered. Then they hit a miracle with a a pass to Vickers who took it to the house. The play that changed the game was a roughing the punter on Danville. What a change of emotions for the Breds fans.

Details why this game should be the "Game of the Week":

The Jason Micheals led Lawrence County Bulldogs snap Breathitt County's 42 game winning steak at home in terrible field conditoins. The Bulldogs were led by All-State players Jason Micheals @ QB(led WKU to National Championship in 2002, and now coaching the TE's at the University of Tennessee), Gerad Parker @ WR (Went on to play at the University of Kentucky, and now coaching the RB's at the University of Tennessee at Martin), Nick Meadows @ RB, and a very strong offensive line. The Bulldogs were coached by Chuke Williams. Defensive Coordinator was Phillip Ratliff, now coaching the TE's at Marshall university. There was a very high attendece at the game and the Lawrence County faithful even tore down one of the goal posts after the game. Great night that will always be remembered in Louisa, even as the football program has dropped off somewhat as of late.

Fun Thread!

For BG Comebacks, I'd have to say the 2012 State Semi-Finals game at John Hardin.  BG scored on a pass from Hayes to Fant midway through the first quarter to close the game to 7-6 (BG missed the PAT).  From there the Purples were flat as a fiddle and John Hardin outplayed them for pretty much the rest of the game.  A couple key plays were:

1.  BG was offsides twice on the 2nd JH TD PAT, which moved the ball to within inches of the goal line.  JH decided to use the "Heavy Package" and inserted BIG DT Jason Elam (who went to UK) as lead blocker.  But the refs said the ball carrier didn't get in.  There are JH fans to this day that say he did get in.  That was a BIG play as the score stayed at 13-6.

2.  BG was threatening down 13-6 with about 5 minutes to play in the game.  Devin Hayes (BGs QB) throw his second uncharacteristic INT at the JH 7 yard line and the JH DB looked like he was gone, BUT RB Blake Pillow didn't give up on the play and tracked him down in BG territory and BGs D would cause another Turnover on Downs.  HUGE play.

3.  BG got the ball back with about 2 minutes to play (still down 13-6), ball started at the BG 20 and got sacked on 3rd down.  So, on 4th and 9 from the BG 21, BG threw the HOOK 'N LADDER to Nacarius Fant who shoveled it to Blake Pillow who took it to the house!!!!  TD BG!

4.  But similar to the Miracle on Ice story (where beating the Russians was only in the Semi-Final Game), BG was still down 13-12.  The Purples called TO and decided to go for 2.  Naracius Fant ran a short down and out and the ball was on the money from Hayes - 2 pt conversion good!  Purples lead 14-13.  JH would get to midfield but that was it and the game ended in one of my Top 5 ALL- Time Purples Wins!!!

A second memorable BG comeback was on September 10th, 2004, where BG would have to dig deep to overcome a determined Greenwood team.  BG was down at home 17-9 at half time.  Greenwood had the opportunity to convert a fake punt on the first play of the 4th quarter, but simply didn't get it done.  BG used that momentum, especially star RB Avery Hibbett who scored late to power the Purples to a 31-24 win over the Gators.

As for Collapses, I would need to think more on that for some of the older games, but these 2 stand out to me:

1.  October 18, 2024 - At Home vs South Warren - Big Rivalry game.  BG has Deuce Bailey and leads South 24-14 with about 8 minutes to play.  Now that is pretty much a done deal in most history books for BG but give the Spartans credit as QB Bryce Button led two late TD drives to absolutely stun BG and basically win the district title and much more favorable playoff pathway 28-24 South Warren.

2.  November 10, 2010 - At Christian County - 2nd Round of the 5A Playoffs - BG had controlled the game throughout and led 10-0 with 4:33 to play in the game.  The Colonels got on the board with 1:46 to play and then recovered the onside kick!  They went on to drive the ball into the end zone and stun the Purples 14-10 to end their season! 

I forget what year it was but SK came from behind to beat Highlands. SK scored 21 points in the 4th qtr Matt Shearer was the qb SK won 35 to 30.

The 2009 State title game for both Lone Oak and Boyle Co. has to be up there for both teams. Ended in a  double OT win for Boyle Co.
