  • We are 2 weeks away from basketball tryouts so here are some of my thoughts on the 8th region : - North Oldham will be mine and 99% of peoples pick to win the region . I even think North can win

I just received my Cat Pause basketball preview magazine today in the mail.  I am guessing they use the coaches votes to compile the preseason rankings and best players list.  I have no idea really.

  • Several returnees, but lose two of top 3 scorers and rebounders off a 10-18 squad.

Simon Kenton lost a great group of seniors but I would put them and South Oldham in the top 5 anyway. They may come out of the gates slowly but come tourney time I feel both these teams will be a factor.

Big 8th Region BoC meeting yesterday, with J. Tackett leading the meeting about redistricting the 8th Region.  Specifically addressing the 3 team and 2 6 team districts with the addition this year of Cornerstone Christian into the 30th.  No solution was voted on, but more meetings and a decision are expected before Christmas.  Any thoughts on new district alignments for the 8th?  Here is the current alignment.

3 Oldham Schools

Anderson, Woodford, Collins, Cornerstone, Shelby, Spencer

Trimble, Henry, Emminence, Gallatin, Owen, Carroll

Simon Kenton, Grant, Walton, Williamstown

Obviously 1 school from District 30 or 31 has to be moved to the Oldham County District. It’s going to be a tough decision. Geography it would make sense for Trimble, Henry or Eminence to be moved to the 29th. But Trimble fought like heck to get away from the 29th so I know the rest of District 31 will put up the same fight to stay away from the Oldham schools.
So in my opinion it has to be Collins or Spencer that gets moved.  And ultimately I think it will be Spencer.  Collins will not want to leave a District that they have their cross town rivals in it.
just my opinion and thoughts

Pretty much how I think it will play out.

If Spencer goes that way, that may be the toughest Boys Basketball District in the State. Most years it would be a coin flip in BOTH semi finals games!

Like NBC said during its heyday, Must See TV!

Is Trimble Co going back to the 29th?

Is Trimble County going back to the 29th?

Thurman Wade is no longer at Woodford Co. He goes to Fredrick Douglas in Lexington.

Nothing is going to change for this season. However, next season there will be a lot on the table. It will be interesting how things shake up.

The elephant in the room is no one will want to come to the “Oldham” district.

I wonder if there is talks about splitting the 3 Oldham schools up into different districts.  I don’t think that will happen but that would solve the issue of no one wanting to join them!!!

I’m thinking if not Trimble maybe HenryCo.

I think it’s part of a broader issue that they need to do a MAJOR redistricting. They haven’t done one since 2005 it’s long overdue. No more 3 team districts! Also trying to avoid 6 team districts also.

As far as the 8th Region goes, I personally think Spencer along with the Bullitt County schools should move to the 5th Region. Also believe Woodford and Anderson should move to the 11th Region. Also move Simon Kenton and Walton to the 9th Region( which should only be Boone and Kenton County schools). The 4 Franklin County schools should move to the 8th Region. So the 8th would look like this:

District 29: 3 Oldham County schools plus Trimble unless they fight it lol.

District 30: 4 Franklin County schools

District 31: 3 Shelby County schools plus 2 Henry County schools.

District 32: Carroll County, Gallatin County, Owen County, Grant County , Williamstown (plus Trimble if they aren’t in the 29th.)

Interesting take, And to be honest I really like it . For geography purposes it really makes since too!!

Big News in the district Realignment discussion for the 2026-2027 season.  The AD's voted yesterday to send Collins to the 29th District with the 3 Oldham County schools and Gallatin County to the 32nd with the Northern KY part of the 8th region, SK, Grant County, Walton Verona, and Williamstown.  This has to be approved by the KHSAA in November.

That makes for a lot tougher sledding for both of these programs.
