This could make the region tournament a little weaker.

I just received my Cat Pause basketball preview magazine today in the mail.  I am guessing they use the coaches votes to compile the preseason rankings and best players list.  I have no idea really.

  • Several returnees, but lose two of top 3 scorers and rebounders off a 10-18 squad.

The redistricting could lead to the 8th region adopting the super regional format sooner than later.

I think this is the way all regions are going to get to.

I think the 6th is doing some form of it this season.

I think it’s part of a broader issue that they need to do a MAJOR redistricting. They haven’t done one since 2005 it’s long overdue. No more 3 team districts! Also trying to avoid 6 team districts also.

As far as the 8th Region goes, I personally think Spencer along with the Bullitt County schools should move to the 5th Region. Also believe Woodford and Anderson should move to the 11th Region. Also move Simon Kenton and Walton to the 9th Region( which should only be Boone and Kenton County schools). The 4 Franklin County schools should move to the 8th Region. So the 8th would look like this:

District 29: 3 Oldham County schools plus Trimble unless they fight it lol.

District 30: 4 Franklin County schools

District 31: 3 Shelby County schools plus 2 Henry County schools.

District 32: Carroll County, Gallatin County, Owen County, Grant County , Williamstown (plus Trimble if they aren’t in the 29th.)

To me, it would make more sense for schools in Boone County and west of 75 in NKY to go to the 8th with the 9th being the rest of Kenton County and all of Campbell County.

Big News in the district Realignment discussion for the 2026-2027 season.  The AD's voted yesterday to send Collins to the 29th District with the 3 Oldham County schools and Gallatin County to the 32nd with the Northern KY part of the 8th region, SK, Grant County, Walton Verona, and Williamstown.  This has to be approved by the KHSAA in November.

If this stands, the new District 29 will have 12 of the last 15 regional champions in it.  It will 100% make the regional tourney weaker and the best teams will not be represented.

Could definitely be that way. Anything is better than what it is currently with teams in the 3 counties just arbitrarily put in 3 different regions.

We are 2 weeks away from basketball tryouts so here are some of my thoughts on the 8th region :

- North Oldham will be mine and 99% of peoples pick to win the region . I even think North can win the WHOLE thing!

- Henry County is going to have a big year be in the top 5 of the region all season.

- Will Cade Goodwin play basketball this year for Collins? Rumor is that he is going all in for football.

- I am excited to see Omari Jointer play and see if he can help Woodford be a contender.

***Can South Oldham shocked the world and repeat? I do think South will be very good again .

I am excited for December to get here and watch some high school basketball.

I just received my Cat Pause basketball preview magazine today in the mail.  I am guessing they use the coaches votes to compile the preseason rankings and best players list.  I have no idea really.  Here is what it looks like by Cat Pause:

Teams

1. North Oldham

2. Woodford County

3. Spencer County

4.South Oldham

5. Simon Kenton

6. Oldham County

7. Collins

8. Henry County

9. Anderson County

10. Walton- Verona

**** What really sticks out to me is Henry County. I think they will be good this year and much better than 8th.

Players Rank:

1. Austin Sears

2. Baylor Nolin

3. Omari Jointer

4. Ty Bryant

5. Caden Gaither

6. Samuel Seawright

7. Noah Beasley

8. Kolton Wuchterl

9. Bray Bilton

10. Tommy Gregg

**** Only 1 senior on the list is something you typically don’t see.

Henry County added another 6’6 transfer Kamri Shropshire. Played summer ball with Collins. Was at Franklin County before that, he was out last year due to injury but is back and healthy. Very athletic long stretch 4. Huge addition to an already strong Wildcats squad.
