I thought this was important enough to start a thread about as we have two coaches already hired to new job at a different school while their teams are still playing in the post season. I know this sometimes happens in college football but I don't ever remember it happening in college basketball. it is being reported tonight that West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries has accepted the Indiana job while his team is getting ready to play in the NIT and that ex LSU and NCAA participant McNeese State coach Will Wade.

There are currently 28 job flips as of Wednesday afternoon and that number is going to increase as the week goes on. It looks like there are going to be some interesting times ahead.

So far there have been 10 coaching openings in the Major Conferences and 18 in the non-power conferences.

Last week, Ryan Miller was named the Murray State head coach. Miller is an assistant at Creighton and is the brother of former Florida Gator and NBA hooper, Mike Miller. "Ironically," Mike Miller is Ja Morant's agent. The kicker is, Ja Morant was publicly rooting for James Kane to get the job. Kane is the assistant who found Morant back in high school.

I'm glad Murray State went outside the family tree for this hire. Kennedy to Prohm to McMahon and back to Prohm. It was time.

So glad to not have to worry about this for a change.

I didn't know they had fired Prohm. I watched them a couple of times this season and they definitely didn't look like a lot of the Racers teams of old. Hopefully the new hire can reignite the program. Moving to the Missouri Valley was a step-up but it isn't so good a league that Murray can't compete.

In the past 15 years, Murray State has had teams that would be the best in the MVC and would have at least competed in the other seasons. Once Prohm returned, it went downhill fast. Yes, it was a step up in competition, but they didn't go from the OVC to the SEC.

I really think mid majors like Murray are being hurt the most by NIL and the Portal. Murray has had a storied tradition. I am so old I remember Claude Virden as OVC POY and Cal Luther as HC lol.

Mid-majors will become even more of a stepping stone than they have been in the past with NIL. The most talented freshmen will still go to P5 schools, while everyone else will go to a mid-major and wait for a "big" school to come calling with NIL.

Mid-majors have always been accustomed to short-term rentals, having to go the Juco route. But it does kill the possibility of developing a high-caliber mid-major player that hangs around for multiple years. Back to Ja, he would have been out of there after his Freshman year. These programs are able to run their own collectives, but not nearly the same $$ flows through them. In fairness, this has always been how it works. The mid-majors are now looking at lower-tier majors and the D2 ranks.

Mid-Major Fordham fired their coach yesterday.

According to some reports, Murray State had the most NIL money in the MVC. It was not well spent or the coaching was not there. Not many were happy with the 2nd stint of Prohm.

I love Prohm the person, but it was a lazy hire by MSU. There was a large swath not happy with his hire three years ago.

I agree on "not happy with his hire three years ago".

 

Also, not only a lazy hire, Prohm was lazy as well.
