Cooper 53 Lloyd 38 (9th Region Championship)

Featured Replies

Cooper dominates Erlanger Lloyd for super defensive Coach Sullivan.  Jaguars going to state for 2nd time under Sullivan (2017).

They will take on Henderson Co. from the 2nd region who won the regional tonight.

Cooper will be a tough out next week.

Last time they made a run to the final.  Gut says it happens again.

Cooper jumped out quickly and never looked back. IMO, the player of the game was #3 Combs. He battled on the defensive end and kept Walker in check the entire game. I hope Walker succeeds at South Carolina, but he has a lot to work on to be able to handle the bigs in the SEC.

I agree on Walker having a lot to work on. I'm not sure what his mentality is. He's the Co region player of the year and a South Carolina signee. Granted, Combs is a great defensive player, but Walker had five inches and some weight advantage on him and he continued to get pushed around in the paint. Why doesn't he in the biggest game in highschool not want the ball on every possession and use those attributes to force his way in and score at will. Sully had a great defensive scheme and it worked very well, but if I'm a 6'8" power forward against smaller defenders guarding me then they are going to have to stop me of foul me. I think his mentality has to change if he wants a shot to play in the SEC. You almost have to be somewhat selfish playing in a game of this magnitude.

Congrats Cooper on the boys second 9th region championship! Now go win it all!

Is he really a big in the SEC?  Maybe a stretch 4, but I think that's a stretch.

I haven’t ever seen Walker play before last night and he could not get his own shot last night.  This meant he had to rely on teammates to feed the post.  It’s a lost art in basketball at most levels in today’s game.  Couple that with no real set plays for him or offensive adjustments to scheme him open.  Recipe for disaster.  It appeared Cooper was much more prepared last night. They physically dominated the game from start to finish.

He has the perfect body for an SEC wing. That being said, if he can't find 15 shots a game at the high school level he isn't going to do so well against 5 guys built just like him.

He'll need to slim down, losing 20-30 lbs., and get a lot quicker to play wing in the SEC.

I don't know where else he'd play.  He's not quick enough to play the wing.

My question, is Walker's ball handling skills, outside shooting, and being able to create off the dribble good enough to play a wing in the SEC against much quicker and more physical defenders. He has a great body length for that position but he struggled last night asserting himself when he was the biggest player on the court. I hope he does succeed, and I think if he learns to play with that "dawg" mindset will make him a better player.
