I know I've had this debate before, but I'm not sure that I've ever really definitively decided before.

You call it a "hot dog on a bun" and not "a hot dog in a bun?"

Lol, it is kinda inside of the bun, really.....but yep, "hotdog on a bun" for me.

It is whatever helps you maintain balance in the universe.

 

A hot dog is not a sandwich, just like a hamburger is not a sandwich. A taco definitely not a sandwich. 

No to both. Nateland Podcast had Ben Rothlisberger on this past week and this topic was brought up.

Which is why establishments that offer burgers and sandwiches almost always separate them.

In the UK the deciding factor between a burger and a sandwich in most restaurants and shops is that when it comes to meats, a "sandwich" has separate pieces/slices of meat and a "burger" has a single piece/amalgamation of meat. A "chicken sandwich" is generally some variety of chicken salad sandwich or sometimes sliced deli chicken, and a "chicken burger" is a grilled or fried chicken breast on a bun. I've seen chicken burgers, hamburgers, fish patty burgers, and fried cod loin burgers all listed in the burger section of restaurant menus in the UK.

Does anyone in the USA actually call a Chick-fil-A chicken breast sandwich a "Chicken Burger?" Same for a filet of fish sandwich, no one thinks of that as a "Fish Burger."

England doesn't even understand what biscuits and gravy are, no way I trust their food opinions. ?
