Last year was one of the best recruiting classes in Kentucky's history, yet they couldn't crack the top 7 in the SEC.

 

The SEC is ridiculous when it comes to football & recruiting...

Odd to think Illinois had the top recruiting class in the Big 10. The problem with Zook was never being able to get the kids to come...

 

I personally think Zook is best fit for a place like Illinois.

No, not even close. They are in the 40's somewhere i believe. Ranking wise this wasnt a great class for UK but the coaches seem to have a good eye for talent tho.

Imagine having the 21st best recruiting class in the nation. You'd feel pretty good and be near the top of your conference right? How about 9th in the SEC. :eek: That's disheartening.

This is nothing new...the SEC almost always has a large number in the top 20-25...I remember looking at some recruiting rankings last year and UK's class was somewhere around #40, which was good for #10 or 11 in the conference.

Hasn't U of L been hovering in the 35-40 range again this year, which is their usual place? And which is nothing to scoff at as they seem to have done pretty well with recruiting classes in that range.

Again, that's nothing new...UK is going to have to maximize their talent. They aren't going to out-recruit SEC heavyweights (Florida, Georgia, Tennessee) and a Steve Spurrier coached South Carolina based on one winning season. If they continue to build on what they've done, then they might get a little more competitive in the recruiting wars. Until then, they're going to have to find "diamonds-in-the-rough" and then get the max out of them on the field, much like U of L has done with some players...
