Quite a few football "experts" bailed on Beechwood after the Covington Catholic game. 

Not understanding the reverse psychology on that one. By the sound of OC and their "interesting" statements all week ... It is pretty much a dead certainty that OC never thought of their selves as the under dog.

 

Of course any team that goes 14 and 0 into state final 2 years in a row should never consider them an underdog maybe even should consider themselves the favorite but according to the poll in this site it was 3 to 1 for Beechwood to win so by that stat and to me personally I consider OC to be the underdog with no state championships compared to BW now with 18 and Mayfield currently at 13...So my heart was pulling for the underdog to get their first but my head knew that no matter what seed BW was they could beat anyone anywhere they had to play in the playoffs...

I have no kids on this BW team and no real direct involvement with any of them, but I think this is one of my favorite Championship teams. So many good kids that I have been cheering for since they were Middle School, Freshmen and JV players. Significant contributions from so many different players both in this game and throughout the season.

I've been out traveling a lot this weekend but I wanted to stop in on this thread and say congrats to Beechwood.  They put on a championship performance on Friday and have a whole team full of dudes!  Coach Volker was a great guest this season on the Gamechangers!  To inherit a program like that and keep things at a championship level is very impressive.

To the Aces seniors, it was an absolute pleasure to get to call some of your games over the years.  That was a very special group of kids.  Guys like Brady Atwell and Vince Carrico embody what high school football is all about.  Best of luck in your next chapters!
