12th Region Boys Basketball Preview

Featured Replies

I think that if you're going to look at Pulaski's strengths (and they have quite a few) you also need to look at their weaknesses.  I saw them a few times last year, during the summer, and then yesterday and while they are good they aren't a lock to win the 12th.

First of all, they are slow.  I'm not sure they will put a starter on the floor who I'd consider to be quick.   That might not be a factor in a lot of games but depending on the matchup it could be significant.  I'd say they'd have a hard time if they were behind and trying to press a quick team with good ball handlers.

Three point shooting.  Cook is an excellent three point shooter but other than him the rest of them are average to below average.

Bench.  They definitely have 5 good, experienced players they can put on the floor but after that they're pretty much in the same boat as everyone else in the region.  They're going to have to depend on some of the younger, lesser experienced guys stepping up.  They've got good size in their starters in Anderson and Farmer but the bench players didn't look too big.  If either of them were to get in foul trouble against a team like Lincoln it might not be a big deal but against DCA or Mercer it could be a problem.

That said, I'd still consider them to be the favorite based on the fact that they have 5 good, experiences players with a couple of them having decent size.

  • It's an interesting exercise to try to predict what's going to happen based on last year's results but I'd also point out that every now and then a team will seemingly come out of nowhere to make life

I agree it is a pretty wide open region but you may have missed a few transfers that will shake your order up I believe  Lincoln also lost Mason Agee to Garrard Co so that leaves them completely

  • Everybody’s gonna miss a transfer or injury or two in a preseason writeup.    Great job.

I get the size comment, but they haven’t had size the previous two years either and still won the region.  Anderson, Farmer, Both Fraleys are big physical kids.   They added to a strength with bringing in Farmer.  I think for them it’s all about Carson Fraley health throughout the season.  If he’s healthy, they’ll be there IMO with a great shot to 3peat.

They aren’t quick or athletic, yet did just fine against a much more athletic GRC team. A well coached team that’s ranked 6th in the state and (IMO) considerably better than any team in the 12th.

They’re the most fundamentally sound team and are extremely well coached. Their kids seem to know their roles, which isn’t the norm in today’s high school game. That’s worth a ton.

I'm not saying they won’t lose any 12th region games. But I do think they’re going to be the best team in the region all year long. Could they get knocked off in the regional tournament? Sure, but that is true for every regional favorite in the state.

The entire 12th region is slow by your standards then. They held their own against both Trinity and GRC much superior athletes to the 12th.

However, I would say you could use the word slow as one advantage for teams.  The slow pace of teams like Lincoln and DCA can make it tough to come back from.

What teams play more than 7-8 guys?
I don’t really see the bench comment. Seems to me that just a hopeful statement.

12th will be competitive again. Lincoln is always be a top team playing at their place. I’m not sure DCA makes it out of the district. Where will that be held?

I think the rotation has the 45th @ Boyle Co. this year, but could be wrong.

This is correct.

Guy Turner will not be suiting up for the Rebels this season.

Will he be suiting up anywhere else?

Uh oh, that’s not good. Actually, that’s really bad. Wow.

Wow. I hate this for Boyle. Seems like something that may have been planned all along  or really weird timing one.

Guy Turner is going to Christian Academy of Louisville. Hearing Maddox Hager might be going also.

I would be really surprised if this all turns out to be true. Maybe it’s from the rumblings due to all the uncertainty around the basketball program?? Sounds far fetched to me.

Is this basketball or football related? Both?

I heard that Turner is going to CAL.  I also heard that Hager isn’t playing but nothing about a transfer for him.
