thanks for the clarification.

I've met Coach Adams before and I really think he's a good guy.

As many have posted on here, I wasn't at this game so I can't say exactly what happened BUT I really don't think that Coach Adams would intentioally do this.

It has been said in this thread that the other good teams that bat Beth Haven didn't score more that 77 or so points...well I have one question. WHERE ARE THOSE GOOD TEAMS ON THE SCHEDULE? That schedule is filled with teams that are NOT any good.

Also...when are teams going to ever get on the coaches from the teams that get beat as bad as Beth Haven has been beaten on numerous occassions this year? I think it's a pretty sad situation when a team can't score double digits in a 32 minute game...BH has done this on THREE occassions this year.

For those that think that I'm trying to bash the BH program please think otherwise.

In no way, shape, or form am I doing this...I'm just trying to get the posters on this site to look at the situation from BOTH sides of the court.

I commend the players and coaches from BH for getting out there even when they know they're going to get slaughtered...it takes a strongly willed person to do this on a continued basis.

Untill a "100 point basket" is incorporated into the game, their is never a reason at any time ever for any team to beat any other team by 101 points. Thats rediculous and flat out gutless for a coach to allow to happen. The coach has already been defended as a "good guy" on this thread, I see in no way how anyone could defend him after the out come of this game. Posters on the site usually bring up the argument about what to do when you are beating a team this badly. A question is always asked : "What are the girls supposed to do when they are up that much ? Stop Playing?" A simple answer for that would be YES. Yes, you tell your girls to stop playing, hold the ball on offense and let the other team have an open shot on defense, when a team is bad enough to get beat by over 100 points, they arent going to make many, if any of the shots you let them take. There is no reason for a coach to allow this to happen. I've seen some lopsided scores this year, I cant complain about beating a team by 30, 40 or even 50 points, but 101 is completely uncalled for and should never happen.

What's the magic number that allows a team to maintain an appearance of "class"? Is 50 OK but 52 is classless? Frankly, I don't really care one way or another. I think it's showing just as much lack of respect for your opponent when you instruct your players to stand near mid court and let the clock run. If this were to happen I would surely expect the losing team to just set in a zone and allow the clock to run.

Who scheduled this game? It looks as both sides bear some of the blame for scheduling a game this lopsided.

A game like this is hard on both sides, IMO it would show more disrespect to the losing team if you just stopped doing anything basketball related, like not shooting a wide open shot or just giving them the ball and getting out of their way. Now if the winning team was jumping up and down and talking trash, acting like they were really doing some big time playing I would have a problem with that.

I wasn't there so I can't judge what happened. Here is what I do know...it is a coach's job to make his team better and see that they play hard. It is not his job to see that the game is kept close for the other team. That would be the opposing team's coach's job.

Unless it is a district game, a coach can control this with their scheduling. Truth be told, we have already spent more time discussing this than the Beth Haven players and coaches have.

Tournament time will be here soon...let's start looking forward to that!!!

It isn't the coaches job to have class and represent your program with class? The coach could have very easily went into a stall offense(run a motion offense with a lot of passes) and kept the score better. There is no way that you can score 69 points or whatever it was in one half without a lot of fast break baskets, all the coach has to do is tell his players to not fastbreak, and just walk the ball up the court. I can't believe people are actually defending this outcome, it is classless on the team's part and shows how some people are.

As a coach, I have been on both ends of lopsided scores. There are several tactics that can be used to keep a score from getting to the margin that happened in this game. There is no excuse for a 100 point victory.

Whenever I coach a team that is far more talented than our opponent, and we have the game well in hand, we discuss at time outs that there is no point in demoralizing or embarrassing the other team. These type games can be great life lessons.

How ironic, I started a thread at the beginning of bball regarding running the score up and guess who it was all about? Right, Hart Co beating Caverna, another power house in the state, 115-27.

I as well, was not at either game. Sounds like in this most recent win, they may have been trying to set the school record again. For everyone that knows anything about bball or just a little, you know there are all kinds of ways of keeping the score down to a minimum. I agree w/some of the comments about keeping your players sharp and playing hard and also allowing your younger kids to score but these two scores are rediculous. This feats can be accomplished by not doing all this scoring.

Now, if anyone knows anything about Hart Co, you should know that they are a very young team w/one outstanding upper classwomen(forgot her name)but most of this team are soph and younger. But, this still does not dismiss the way they have beat BH/Caverna. I have watched numerous AAU games where there is usually a major mismatch but the better team did not do what Hart Co has done. Run the offense, X number of passes before shooting, no shots in the paint, no stick backs, no fast breaks and above all NO PRESSING!

I have seen this Hart Co team play and as someone said they are not all that good, a few yrs away. If you had to listen to the parents for a game, I would imagine they really enjoyed watching this as they are a very loud group and of course, do not agree w/any call the refs make or don't make.

Scores like this will soon have the KHSAA making a mercy rule as they have in baseball/softball and finally in football.

Good point made. I do believe that this is the 2nd time this season that this team has done this to an opponent.

I was on the end of a shellacking this weekend. Beat something like 50-1. There were times that there was a long rebound and the other team would grab it and take off (talking 9-10 year old boys here) and the coach, not wanting to run the score up, would be telling them to pull up.

They would be 20-25 feet in front of us, (absolutely much quicker than us at every position), pull up and wait for us to catch up, set up on defense and then run their offense. It was a terrible, terrible feeling.

If anyone thinks that having teams pass up WIDE OPEN shots from 2-3 feet or fast break layups, makes this a better situation is fooling themselves. From experience this past weekend, it made my players nor myself feel better for them to not shoot the layup.

In fact, it had the exact opposite effect. When the other team quit playing hard, my team quit playing hard which even more compounded the situation.

lbc, so, in other words, you feel it is a no win situation for the dominating team no matter what they do? I disagree, sorry. The better team can work on things more than just taking the ball down on a long rebound and shooting a lay up. If your team quit playing hard, sorry again, then that is your fault for not keeping your kids motivated enough to play hard no matter what. Life is not a bowl of cherries and things do not go our way all the time but that is no excuse to QUIT. Sorry, just my opinions. I too have been on both sides of the coin and no matter what which side your on there is no reason to QUIT.

I do think there are things that the other team can do without it appearing they are quitting. But to pass up a WIDE OPEN shot, comes across as quitting and that is from the team leading.

With kids that age, your not always sure on what you are going to get. Yeah, you teach/coach them to not quit but 9 year old boys sometimes have minds of their own.

Me personally, if I was playing I would not want them to pass up open shots or quit playing defense and allow us to score just to have us score. Yeah, stop pressing and trapping.

Yeah, get the bottom of the bench time. But to tell those bottom 5 players that I don't want you shooting or doing those things that you know you need to get better at or do to get more playing time, is a hard thing to do on young kids.

If 100% of the offensive game plan is to push the ball and attack and that is what the team works on all the time, their first and natural instinct is to do that. THat was what was happening. They reacted as they do in every game and practice, got out in front and realized what was happening and then stood at the 3 pt line while we caught up.

Just don't think that is all that some are portraying it. And yes, for the dominating team in a bunch of regards it is a no-win situation.

There is absolutely NO reason to run a score up like this. I fully admit that I don't know anything about either team but I can't imagine that there wasn't something the Hart team could had done to hold the score down. Yes, it obviously was a mismatch and was going to be bad but this is classless. Hope you feel good about yourself Hart Cop. Coach  , to me you are the one that was humiliated. Totally classles. JMO
