Trinity (4-1) and Saint Xavier (2-2) will meet in their annual rivalry game at L&N Cardinal Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM. Trinity is coming off a 24-21 win over Male, and St. X is coming off a 17-15 loss to Elder (OH).

Both teams have a common opponent in Male this season with Trinity beating Male 24-21, and St. X losing to Male in OT 35-34.

Last year, Trinity beat St. X twice with a 38-14 win in the 6A playoffs and a 45-10 regular season win.

Trinity against Male was led by RB Jamaurion Berry who had 96 yards rushing and 1 TD. QB Zane Johnson ran for the pivotal winning TD competing the comeback after being down 21-6. WR Jason Hagan led with 95 yards receiving. Kicker Carson Hilbert had big game where he hit 3/4 of field goals. The defense held the powerful Male offense to 21 points and forced 4 turnovers.

St. X against Elder was led by QB Mason Trimble who threw for 240 yards. WR/RB Marlon Harbin had 60 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving. Both times near the goal line QB Thomas Andriole was brought in to run and he scored both of St. X's TD's running. The St. X defense held Elder to all their 2 touchdowns in the first half but couldn't stop the Elder passing game in the final minute of the game which resulted in the game winning FG by Elder as time expired.

Based on the common opponent of Male, this looks like could be a competitive game. Both of St. X losses have been by a combined 3 pts. With Trinity winning in dominating fashion last year it would be hard to pick against the Shamrocks unless you are a Tiger backer. Trinity will be looking to come out strong after how the Male game started out and St. X will chomping at the bit to break their two game losing streak plus avenge last year's losses. Do the Shamrocks get the win extending their streak over the Tigers or do the Tigers get a much needed win?

Friday will be the 93rd meeting between the two rivals. Trinity leads the series 50-40-2. The Shamrocks have dominated the series since the end of the Glaser era (2012) on Polar Level Road with a 13-4 record against the Tigers in that time. That includes six playoff wins including that 2017 state title.

Both the Shamrocks and Tigers have close wins over Male this season.

Defense plus the play of Jamaurion Berry in the running game have been two crutches that Trinity has leaned on these past two weeks. The passing game continues to progress. Sophomore Jason Hagan got more involved against Male, catching four of his nine receptions on the year in that win.

Sounds cliche, but if the defense continued to play like it has (especially those guys up front) and the Rocks can continue to find ways to move the ball down field, Trinity has a good chance to rack up a third consecutive win over St. X.

Key will be stopping Marlon Harbin. He's done just about everything for the Tigers as their top rusher and receiver. Really good athlete who the Rocks looked to limit last season as well. Both will be motivated but St. X maybe even more so coming off that last-minute loss to Elder (Ohio) where they nearly pulled the comeback.

Trinity has dominated the series since 2010. It looked like the Tigers had narrowed the gap but last year didn't help that opinion. The Tigers have the skill players to give the Trinity defense problems, but we'll see if the big guys upfront can hold their ground and allow the Tiger offense to keep the Rocks honest on defense with the run game. While Zane Johnson got a lot of the praise last year with his performance against St. X, it was the run game that was really impressive. If the St. X defense can find a way to control the Trinity run game, then we should have a really good game on Friday night.

This is a very competitive matchup this year.  I don't think either team has a huge talent advantage.  This will truly be one of those games where the team that plays better on that given night will win.  In tight games like this, special teams usually has a big say in the final outcome.

From the outcomes of the common opponent Male, I think the Dawgs were very fortunate to beat X  that was the better team most of the night only to lose on a last minute 59 yard TD to Harris.  On the other hand Male far outplayed Trinity for most of the game to lose in the last minute on a great drive fueled by a barrage of flags and questionable rulings (the initial one negating Males recovery of the touched punt in the last minute on the Shamrocks 2 yard line.  Ruling on the clearly rolling ball was it was dead.  Game changer.). Great 98 yard drive led by QB play that ended only 11 for 36 on the night.  But, to his credit he delivered on this drive.

St. X 24-19.
