Erdman’s injury happened on a SK touchdown pass where he made (what appeared to be) glancing contact with the receiver.  My first impulse was it was probably a dislocated shoulder as he immediately ran off the field with his arm held low.  Just didn’t see the kind of contact that usually preludes a collar bone break.  But, I could be 100% wrong.  Great athlete.  Here’s hoping it is something minor

They are fearing a torn labrum. Initial Xrays were good news but he has an MRI to check labrum Monday morning.

Growing up, this was always the week where the kids at Beechwood would always try to get an extra lick in on the kids from Blessed Sacrament and St. Joe's at Spartans practice, and vice versa, haha.

  • Wasn’t 2021 the year a lot of kids reclassified and played a 5th year for BW?  That might also explain their advantage that year…

Not knowledgeable to know how challenging/debilitating this kind of injury is for a young athlete.  Had partial tear as an old man and could not play golf for six months.

My personal favorite rivalry. This game may be a shootout. I’m going to take the Colonels by a touchdown.

I can't imagine a torn labrum will sideline Erdman.  I would think if that were all it is he will play.

Such a fun week for both schools!

I know CCH is having this game be a Colonels Youth Game to encourage all the young, Future Colonels to come out an experience the craziness of this game and Braveheart march.

Go Colonels!

Seeing both teams play I think CovCath wins by 14.

Apparently Luke Erdman has an AC joint sprain. Doubtful, but not completely out for the game.

All things considered that sounds like good news.

I would say rest up if you are not ready.

I 100% agree. It must be hard to rest up and miss this classic rivalry game. One of the best games of the year.

Last year Cov Cath's defense struggled with Beechwood's speed. Tyler Fryman rushed 4 times for 63 yards and had 4 catches for 67 yards, Luke Erdman rushed 4 times for 20 yards and had 2 catches for 30 yards, Chase Flaherty had 5 catches for 77 yards, and James Cusick had 3 catches for 45 yards. Those players averaged almost 16 yards per reception.

Beechwood is without Fryman and Erdman is questionable. Flaherty is on pace for a 1000 yard season rushing this season with 87 carries for 494 yards (5.7 yards per carry) in 4 games. Cusick has 23 receptions for 360 yards and the next two receivers behind Fryman and Erdman are Nathan Pabst (6 catches for 87 yards) and Caleb Arrasmith (4 catches for 67 yards).

Two of Cov Cath's three starting defensive backs this year were starting against Beechwood last year - Cash Harney and Dylan Gaiser. Zach Brooks is the new addition to the starters in the defensive secondary at cornerback. I know those three can handle a lot of the speed, but we've struggled defending the pass whenever we've had teams go into hurry-up offense against us. Here's hoping things are coming together against that this Friday, because we're definitely not going to be catching any breaks on errant passes this week with Hayden in at quarterback for Beechwood.

I could not believe how good this kid was as a freshman last year. IMO a top 3 player on the field in the game against a 4A team that went 14-1.

Out starting 4 in secondary are very solid. I think once we start mixing in some depth pieces it gets a little shaky, but the top 4 guys should be able to hang with their receivers.

How will this injury affect Fryman’s baseball season? I know he’s a Louisville commit, so I’m worried about Spring for him as he’s a stellar baseball stud.
