I-75 Active Shooter (Body Found)

Pretty quiet right now, still getting several calls for police to come investigate strange sounds or why someone's dog is barking.

These are maybe the most dangerous times. You go and check false alarm after false alarm and they get routine, even on a night like this. It just takes one of those calls to bring you in the line of a killer.

  • Just like school shootings, we have been tired of it for years.  The question is what to do or how to stop it.  And taking guns away from people like you and me is not the solution.

A coworkers uncle was killed in Mississippi on a night very much like tonight. They'd been searching for a guy all day. Received another call from someone saying he thought someone was in his out building because his dogs were barking. The Sheriff opened the door to check and was immediately shot and killed. He'd been checking out calls like this all afternoon and probably figured this was just like the others. It was said that he returned fire and killed the shooter also.

Sounds like the active search is completely on another frequency this morning.

Would they do this so the suspect can't track their comms? It was obviously on Twitter last night there were probably thousands of people listening.

Yes, and to keep the public away. A lot of people will hear about an active scene and want to do a drive by look. By going off public channels you avoid that as well as possibly giving Intel to suspect.

I'm usually a glass half full guy, but I think the next few years will be awful in this regard.

Unfortunately I am thinking so too.

Devils in the details.  Eveyone will hear why eventually.

Hopefully this coward doesn’t turn the gun on himself.

I'd rather him do that vs more people hurt.  Belive me I get the disgust, but I'd welcome it.

Wow.  I would like to hear the command center radio feed.

No, you wouldn't.

Laurel Sheriff's Office press conference earlier. Spokesman said they feel confident that he is contained in one area near the original shootings. Told public to stay away from the area and to stay vigilant in case the shooter has left the perimeter they have.

Optimistic that they will capture him today.

From scanner, there are teams of officers going through the thick forest and undergrowth, checking foot by foot. Drones are deployed and K9s are used with additional K9 units on the way.

Officers came across a trail they believe could have been made by suspect.

If both of these statements are true, then this tells you all you need to know about the ridiculousness of some of our gun laws (or lack thereof).

Meh, you can't take someone's rights away until they're found guilty of a crime. You and I can COMPLETELY agree, there were ways to avoid this outcome. But taking someone's rights without due process is a slippery slope.

Nothing, it's just never as juicy as we'd like..... sometimes, mostly. Cmon G, you know.
