Christian Academy of Louisville enters Friday night’s contest fresh off of a hard fought victory over Owensboro at Rash Stadium.  The opponent doesn’t get any easier as Indiana 3A #1 ranked Heritage Hills comes to town.  Heritage Hills was the Indiana 3A runner-up last year & boasts such football alumni as Ken Dilger & Jay Cutler.

Heritage Hills is led by a three-headed attack of QB Jett Goldsberry, WR Tyler Ruxer & RB Hunter Meredith.

CAL on the other hand will look to keep things rolling with the arm & legs of Conner Hodge.  I’m not sure if CAL will have the services of RB Jeffrey Vezzana or not, but with the likes of Garyon Hobbs at RB & Ja’Hyde Brown at WR, CAL should still be in good hands.

Who wins this battle of 3A #1 ranked teams?

CAL by 21.  HH a good program but can’t hang with a top Louisville program.  Similar to Gibson southern - very good not great.  Usually no overwhelming athleticism to deal with.  Don’t know this for sure but if memory serves - back in the day wanted no piece of scheduling Owensboro although really close proximity.

Ironically enough, Gibson Southern and Heritage Hills play in the same conference (PAC).  They actually played each other in the 3A semi-finals last year with Heritage Hills coming out on top.  The PAC is mostly a small school, southwestern Indiana conference (1A-3A schools), but they play decent football.  Four different conference members have been to the state finals in their respective classes in the last 5 years.

Yes.  They are very good, just shouldn’t come anywhere close to CAL.  Very close to Owensboro.  Turned out some NFL players.

For those interested in watching this CAL home game or any other CAL home game this year.

That is fantastic news.  The broadcasts were high quality last year for Trinity.

Jay Cutler: Broncos, Bears

Ken Dilger: Colts TE

And Jon Goldsberry....the father of their QB Jet Goldsberry.

BTW the top PAC teams in my view are better than Owensboro probably most years...as is the SIAC top teams which was made evident back in the border bowl days.

neutral field
[2023] Heritage Hills (Lincoln City, IN) 31 (61%), [2023] Owensboro (KY) 26 (39%)

neutral field
[2023] Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, IN) 31 (60%), [2023] Owensboro (KY) 27 (40%)

Looking at the Border Bowls from 2007-2010 the Owensboro schools had a a 8-4 record.

Owensboro:

Split with Evansville Mater Dei 2005-2006

Beat Evansville Memorial 2007, 2009

Beat Evansville Reitz 2008 lost 2010

Lost to Mater Dei by 1 in OT 2017

Beat Reitz in 2018

Lost to Central by 2 in 2019

These are usually the best Evansville has to offer.  Again HH wouldn’t schedule OHS according to what I was told.  If they beat CAL , I’ll own I was wrong.  They are a really good Southern Indiana team just should get beaten pretty easily by CAL.
