Purple88 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 South Warren starts the year off with a very solid performance. Bryce Button was as good as advertised. OLine and DLines look very good. But their offensive schemes were WAY too much for an overmatched Ballard Team. Ballard needs another bus for all the penalties they had. A LONG way to go for the Bruins. I really hope #7 can return soon for Ballard. 1
DragonFire Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 South Warren has won 133 games in program history - 29 of them have been shutouts, a little under 22%. 1
MBKT Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 The Bruins may not want to think about the Big Boys in 6A just yet.
Unrivaled97 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Not shocked by this at all. I know Ballard supposedly returned a lot on offense, but they didn’t return their head coach & that will hurt a heck of a lot more than people think 1

They operate out of a spread even though they know and the opponent knows that they can't pass the ball. Last year they were good when their read option was working which was helped by having a future D1 runningback in the backfield. If you stack the box and shut down their run game, there's nothing that they can do. They'd be better off switching to a Power I or something similar where they can also take advantage of short/quick routes. 1

I don’t believe the talent gap was too wide, but the inability to throw the football really put a handicap on what Ballard could do offensively. Spartans were sending 5 or 6 defenders all evening so the 1on1 matchups were there on the outside, unsure why they didn’t test the secondary.
