So do we talk about how many penalties CCH had? Or the bad play was at the line? Or how Harney was worn our from playing both ways? Or how bad special teams continue to be? Or the defensive secondary looking bad? Or the same milquetost offensive play calling?

So many coices.

Congrats to Ryle on breaking the 6-game losing streak to CovCath. I have no doubt that the Blue Colonels will have a good year and go a long way in the playoffs. Ryle will continue to get better, too.

Game 1, tough loss, but it’s also a process. New team this year, & in the grand scheme of things, Cov will learn far more from this than the game matters. Don’t lose faith. And If you’d like to discuss how football works, please reach out as this Colonel fan would like to inform PHM of what they neglect to see.

That was the largest crowd I have seen at Ryle in awhile. Great atmosphere for high school football. Thanks to CovCath for traveling well and it was nice to see so many kids there. On to Conner.

Who played QB for Cov Cath?

Cash Harney and Dylan Gaiser.

I thought they had a qb from elder that was supposed to be "the one"?

If you’re looking for a positive spin for CCH:

⁃    You were only outgained by 26. Certainly not dominated.
⁃    You had some bad turnover luck, I think Ryle recovered 4 out of 4 fumbles and you had 2 bad snaps for points for Ryle
⁃    Ryle has a few P4 or high end NKY players (Lorms) and has a real nice team with a lot of returning starters
⁃    14-14 late in the game with you breaking a lot of new guys.

The problem for CCH is the OL probably won’t gel until later in the season, so you’re probably looking at a lot of 2nd and 3rd and longs for the 1st half of the season. That is certainly not the strength of the offense. Next week will be interesting!

Feels like a bit of a spin and I agree, next week will be interesting!

Anyone have the score of the JV game?

Hey I said it was a positive spin ?

You’re never as good as you think you are after a win and never as bad as you think after a loss.

We’re clearly not talented enough to win a title, but I still think 8-2 or 7-3 is very reasonable. Then we come together to win a few games in playoffs and give a nice launch point for 25 and 26 to have a real shot.

As to Cash Harney playing both ways, I always thought it was crazy when Mike Yeagle and Noel Rash won a zillion state championships doing exactly that.  Injury was the concern, but rarely a thought about these very fit high school athletes getting worn out.  Beechwood’s qbs even had extra game mileage running to the sidelines to get the playcalls in Hergot’s offense.  Harney will be fine playing both ways.  The real question is playing him at qb rather than WR the best offensive mix for the Colonels? Not whether Harney goes both ways.

To me this was the biggest surprise of the weekend.  Either Ryle is much better than I thought or CC is much worse than I thought.  I am sure we will find out that answer in the next few weeks.
