That was my first thought. Good for Houston for acquiring him, but it was evident since the end of the '22-'23 season things were not going well. His Houdini act last summer after signing his lucrative deal was probably the final nail.

And they are eating over $31 million in dead money to get rid of him.  Limits what they can do to replace him.  They must have REALLY wanted him gone.

Buffalo getting out BEFORE the decline which we saw snippets of at the end of last season.

The way they dumped him, it's about more than that. They wanted him out of the building now!

Snippets? Over the last 10 games we almost saw the whole show. He was not very good in November and December. Don't know whether it was more attitude based or a sudden decline in skills, although the real answer is probably somewhere in between. And likely both scenarios were evident enough which is why the Bills dumped him despite the big cap hit AND not having a real replacement.

You're missing the most glaring reason why he struggled at the end of the season. The OC switch from Ken Dorsey to Joe Brady. With Brady calling the shots, Diggs had only 315 yards receiving in the last 7 games, but the Bills went 6-1. Then, when given a shot to shine in the playoffs, he failed miserably, dropping a ball he should have caught in the 4th quarter against the Chiefs.

Aside from that, he'll be 31 by the end of the 24 NFL season and by trading him before 6/1 they'll get an additional 27.3M in cap space for 25. Also, the WR class in this year's draft is stacked. They're going to get a good replacement in R1 or R2 for sure.

I'm not sure why this is that much of a shock to anyone that he was traded..

I get that the OC change might have had an impact. But overall, he didn't look explosive and had trouble getting seperation. The surprise was the fact that he has a pretty new, and expensive contract and there were no real replacements lined up. I agree the draft is deep, but rookie receivers are far from a sure thing.

Heard today that as part of this deal the Diggs contract ends this year. One year prove it deal now for Diggs. A chance for him to get one more big contract next year if he plays well.

It's not shocking at all that they traded him. What they traded him for is the surprise. And if that is all Buffalo could get, looks like no one else in the NFL wanted him.

I get Diggs is good and all, but what is he? The 15th best WR in the NFL? He’s worth more than what the Bills got in return, but probably not as much as people are thinking. This isn’t Hill or Jefferson.

This is where I am. He’s been really good at times, but I’ve really never gotten the hype on him.

Only Hill and Adams have more yards than Diggs over the last 5 years.

Only Adams has more receptions than Diggs the last 5 years.

Tied for 4th in receiving TD's over the past 5 years.

_______

Side note: If you look at the last 4 years, Tee Higgins falls in the 15-20 range in all those categories. The Bengals will definitely be overpaying Higgins this coming year.

Been top 10 most of his career but never top 5 and he's felt like a top 2 headache too often.
