Coach Irvin announced his retirement on Social Media.

This seems from the outside to be a really good job.  The Cardinals have great facilities and have won back to back District Championships. 

Some names to keep an eye on. Former Taylor County coach Richard Gatewood who led them to 2 5th region titles with Quentin Goodin in 2015 and 2016. He is now an assistant for Evangel Christian. Another name to watch is Phil Cunningham the former WKU assistant and head coach at Troy. He is from Campbellsville and currently out of college coaching.

Josh Kays an assistant the last two years is a name I'd watch out for with this job.

Hearing the same with Josh Kays the assistant head coach for Taylor and former Thomas Nelson head coach.

I'm hearing Richard Gatewood is all but a done deal. Guess we will see.

Was told that Kays didn't want the head coaching position, and that Gatewood was the plan until Quintin Goodin is ready to take over the team. Haven't seen Coach Irvin's post, but also hearing that this wasn't his decision. That he was told before the regional tournament that whenever their last game was, that would be his last game. If that's the case, that's a shame. Irvin is one of the best coaches in the 5th Region. 

Heard rumblings at the state tournament that Maze was going to try to get back here. 

If Coach Irvin was pushed out I would assume they knew they had Gatewood locked up imo.

Demotion by promotion is certainly a possibility at TC. They have used this move numerous times with athletic and non-athletic admin. Irvin seemed to have TC relatively relevant just about every year. With the amount of financial investment TC has made in athletics over the last ten years I can see them wanting immediate contention year in and year out for sweet sixteen appearances. Someone above mentioned Quentin Goodin. Suggesting that Q is ready or even close to ready to run a program is farfetched for me. Stellar athleticism and  successful high school and college career does not automatically qualify you as a head coach. Typically, you'd expect a district like TC to look for coaching experience on a resume when looking for a head coach, or even a head coach in waiting (as someone suggested). However, watching Superintendent Higdon hand over the keys over the athletic district to Chris Goodin over the last ten years has been a wild ride, SO who knows? Sad to see Irvin step away, his choice or not. 

Any update? Haven't heard much out of TC about this lately?

Seems like it should be the likely choice now. Hearing that Gatewood will be next coach at Evangel, so that takes him out of the running.
