Great news! I'll be watching the listing for Wake Forest games in 2 years.

Congratulations to Shane and his family. Wake is a great school and I hope to hear great things from him.

Is it too early to put him on my fantasy team?

Congrats to Shane and good luck!!!

Congrats Shane, what a great decision, up and coming BCS school with great academics and it looks like an opportunity to be the man in two years.

Sounds like it could not be a better fit. Learning behind the Groza winner in the kicker Swank and playing for the Coach of the Year in a team that just played in a BCS game in a good conference and somewhat warm weather, and oh yeah, one heck of a school. There are going to be many, many schools lose big games due to there kickers that are going to look back and say, "and to think we could have signed that Popham kid".

Great post, and again congrats to Pop. Good Luck.

A side, UofL kicker "Carmody" won the Groza, not Swank. He was semi.

Congratulations to Shane and his family. He was fun to watch kick this year even though he tried some crazy attempts in that 2nd Highlands game. He had a great career and should do well at Wake Forest.

....at the same time I'm sitting in my recliner saying "heck, I saw that kid play baseball at President's Park in the 3rd grade." Strange.

Outstanding accomplishment. Betty Trenkamp is beaming with pride.

cshs81....Strange you mention baseball..... While I didn't see him play in the 3rd grade :D I can't really say that he is a better Place kicker than a 3rd baseman. I know, I know, his bread and butter is football, but man is Pop a vacuum at third, and with a bat in his hand at the plate, he is a weapon also.... Great kid, outstanding student, from a loving family, with two of the nicest parents anybody could have.... Wake is going to love having Pop there....Congrats

Well deserved, Pop. Best wishes to you for a great time at WFU in all aspects of college life. Look forward to seeing Pop on the flat screen.

Congratulations to the Pophams! This is truly a family affair! Great choice and great school. It does however, point out the inequities in the recruiting process when it comes to kickers. Few are offered full scholarships outright. Coaches tend to make kickers walk on and prove themselves. With the change in the college game, there are few individual players or positions that become as critical to the outcome of games than the placekicker. Field position is huge as well with strong kickoffs. I believe coaches should reevaluate their process. Perhaps we would not see some of the fiascos in the kicking game that we witnessed down the stretch of the season and the bowl games. I know Bobby Bowden sure understands what the lack of a strong kicker can result in haunting him from the past! It is a "Shane shame" that he did not get full-ride offers from several schools. His national rankings and season record-breaking production deserved such.
