Anyone remember seeing them switch a potential flagrant to a cylinder foul before?

Never. I thought the announcers were brutal throughout, but he was all over that call.

I know that you really want there to be some type of narrative, which involves promises to get Edwards to the league, but if that's the case, Calipari is really doing Edwards a disservice by running h

I was pounding on this through the entire game thread last night. That game was all about physicality. South Carolina was going man on defense, no help and daring UK to beat them in 1 on 1 battles. They were too strong for UK's players.

What needed to happen in that game last night was put big men in the paint, get them thw ball and tell them to go to attack the rim. They did that very briefly with Mitchell. That is when UK got it to 4. Then they stopped. It isn't pretty to play that way. It takes discipline and patience and big men who will play physical. But if we wanted to get open looks from the three that is what had to be done. We had to make South Carolina start helping on the post to open up three point shots. Mitchell was the only big who did it. Z tried a couple times but no success.

The best of the 3 bigs last night was Bradshaw. I was pleasantly surprised with what he did in a physical game. I would have liked them to get him the ball down low a couple times but that never happened.

On defense, every time our guys helped in the paint, SC found the open 3 pointer and they made them.

Finally, on zone defense. The only value of zone is to change up the rhythm of a team on a roll. If you rely on zone to win games, good luck. I am ok playing zone to change game flow but in very limited doses. Last night, a couple possessions of zone would have been worth a try.

One more thought. The refs were letting everything go early in that game. South Carolina pushed UK all over the court and had 5 team fouls at halftime. They were hand checking, pushing, etcl and the refs weren't calling anything because UK let them do it. If you want to change the way the refs are calling the game, get physical right back, get more physical than your opponent. Then the refs will tighten it up to keep it from getting out of hand. UK needed to get really physical. Make a hard foul, run over someone hard on a drive, do something. And then the refs will tighten it up. When Mitchell started going into the paint and forcing his way in there, the refs immediately called 2 fouls because they thought it was starting to get too rough. The only way to beat physical if the refs are letting it go is to get more physical right back.

Solid paragraph. I sure thought the officials let them play in the first half, but didn't want to say anything because I didn't want it to seem like I was complaining about officials. Not sure they called one reach when a South Carolina player swipe down on the ball on a drive (e.g. Wagner or Reaves takes to the hoop). It wasn't egregious or anything but definitely seemed way looser than a lot of games and UK just didn't adjust.

So Ky ended up with 23 different lineups in the game last night and none over 3 minutes!! How is any team in existence suppose to maintain tempo and pace under these conditions???

Fair point.

How many lineup changes were there in the Georgia game?

No one on Twitter reported it for any other game. Just this one.

Question I am pondering about Reed Sheppard. He's only made 13 shots in the 6 SEC games. Some would say, well that's on Calipari for not drawing up plays for him or not playing him enough but I feel like we are maybe seeing a bit of a regression from his early season excellence. He came out hot as can be in non-conference play and was quickly anointed by our fanbase, partially because of his last name and being from KY, but largely because he was playing really well. But he's really fallen off since conference play started in several facets of his game.

It's probably mostly just a young player going through a slump and some growing pains, but as SEC play was starting, he sure shot up the draft boards and was the talk of the town. He was knocking down like 54% from three. Is he in his own head a little now? Been a long time, but as a three pointer shooter in HS, I always knew my percentage on the season and added more unneeded pressure on myself to keep that percentage high. Part of me wonders if thinking about life after UK because of all the NBA talk for him now, which he maybe hadn't really thought about much early in the season, and worrying about performing well has gotten in his head a little and thrown him off.

All speculation but maybe gives us something to talk about for a few days before we can hopefully get his taste out of our mouths on Sat.

He's taken 27 shots in the 6 games, he's made 13 of them.  Still not enough but I do have the same thought process as you do on the external factors affecting him.

Whoops! Thanks for the correction. But yeah, my pondering still remains the same.

He has not taken double-digit shot attempts but three times all season, the last being on December 2nd (he averages 6.5 shots a game). In each contest, he seems to pass up 2-3 opportunities to hoist one up or make a play.

In 7 games from 11/24 vs Marshall through 12/29 vs. Illinois State, he was averaging 9 shots a game.

In 6 games during SEC play from 1/6 vs Florida through 1/23 vs South Carolina, he is average 4.5 shots a game.

Literally cut in half since conference play started.

Is he being guarded closer by better players in conference play and not necessarily great at beating people off the dribble?

I do agree with @bugatti that he passes up some looks every game that I wish he would go ahead and let fly.

Believe me, there’s nothing wrong with Reed!!
