It was just that Kalen DeBoer will be leaving Washington to be the next coach at Alabama replacing Nick Saban. ESPN's Chris Lowe reports I'd say it is a done deal he was the same guy who broke Saban's retirement.

It will be interesting to see if any of Saban's staff is interested in holding over and or asked to stick around.

Mistake

I really thought it would be Dabo.

I was starting to think it might fall to Lane Kiffin.

Curious on why you think this hire is a mistake?

Zero connections in the south.

Limited experience as a D1 head coach. Besides his 2 years at Washington, he was 12-6 in 2 seasons at Fresno State, his only other D1 head coach experience.

Penix was a huge part of his Washington success.

To me he reminds me a lot of Urban Meyer when he was making his way up. Meyer had only been a head coach for 4 years before he landed the Florida gig.

Deboer has been successful every year he has been a head coach except one. Which was his first year at Fresno, which happened to be the Covid year. Other than that he has won titles at the lower level, and turned Fresno around in year two. Then took Washington to the National Championship in year 2.

So I think it is a great hire and very similar to how Urban was coming up. Now he will need to make sure he does good job adding assistants that have connections in the South though.

Agreed. And I still haven't been able to read anywhere, whether any of Saban's former assistants might stick around.  From articles I've read online, it seems as though Saban will still be around at times.

Surprised at this hire.
