What? I didn’t know he passed away. I met him several times. He was a good guy. I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know about this.

B-Ball-fan was definitely a really good guy. He was extremely sociable, but aside from overtly sharing his love for music, art and high school sports he was was fairly private about his life - even with people he encountered pretty regularly. He was pretty slow to share the news of his cancer diagnosis with people as well, so I think it's fairly understandable that his passing was a bit under-the-radar if your encounters with him were primarily in the stands at basketball games. Although I think he'd have been pretty hesitant to share anything in life, I think he would be okay with me sharing his obituary here in his absence (albeit almost a year after the fact). I definitely miss the banter he and I used to have about music and the latest shows we'd caught at local venues.

Gerald Francis Stewart, 58, of Covington, KY, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Born in Covington, on May 6, 1964, he was the son of the late William and Betty Stewart. Gerald's passions were music, architecture and art. He could conduct guided tours of the history and architecture of Covington and Cincinnati. He had a general love of sports but truly enjoyed Northern Kentucky High School Basketball. Gerald never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, he will always be remembered for being a social butterfly. In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his sisters: Patty Stewart-Willis and Deborah Stewart-Holloway. Gerald is survived by his brother: Bill (Jean) Stewart; sisters: Donna (Doug) Rieselman and Sharon Stewart-Dougherty; nephews: Eric (Christine) Enderle, Chris (Jodi) Dougherty, Jeff Dougherty and Mike Willis and niece: Angela Frisch-Taylor. A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until the Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. at Serenity Funeral Care, 40 West 6th Street, Covington, KY 41011. In lieu of flowers Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society at Cancer.org. Online condolences may be expressed on Facebook or at SerenityFuneralCare.com

Geez, I just looked at my inbox and he and I were messaging back and forth on December 9th 2022. He had shared his diagnosis with me and said he was just "trying to enjoy life."

As of 1/8/24 there are 2 undefeated teams:

Region 11 - Henry Clay (15-0)

Region 13 - Bell County (16-0)

As of 1/8/24 there are 7 teams that are still undefeated against Kentucky competition, including teams with losses to out-of-state competitors:

Region 2 - Lyon County (11-0)

Region 6 - Evangel Christian (8-0)

Region 7 - St. Xavier (9-0)

Region 11 - Great Crossing (10-0); Henry Clay (15-0)

Region 13 - Bell County (9-0)

Region 14 - Hazard (13-0)

Dropped from the list:

Region 2 - Henderson County (12-2) had their first loss of the season December 21st on their home court when Vestavia Hills, AL beat them 75-50 in the Henderson Chevy, Buick, GMC Classic. They had their first, and thus far their only loss to an in-state team on January 6th when Bowling Green (13-4) beat them 68-56 in the German American Bank Classic at Bowling Green. That drops the Colonels from the list.

Bell has their work cut out for them tonight with Harlan County.
