A bit of a perfect storm.  Georgia IS one of the best four teams.  I and many others acknowledged as much even after the CFP rankings.  That was one of the irritations I had about how it all played out.  If they were holding to the concept of the four best teams, Georgia didn't stop being that just because they lost by three to Bama.  With Georgia, they used more of a concept of "most deserving", in that the other teams were not better than Georgia, but they had resumes and importantly, conference titles.  If FSU was to be excluded from the playoffs, I never thought they should be rated ahead of Georgia based on the criteria that kept them out.  So Georgia is that good - AND their players wanted to prove that.  I have no idea who of their guys that are NFL prospects stayed in this game.  I was glad Bowers opted out because frankly, I do not think the risk is worth it.  But it certainly seemed like their players were willing to take that risk to play for something.  A chance to prove the committee wrong.  A chance to achieve the most wins in a three year span (for anyone, I think).  They had goals.  They were willing to stick around and play for it. 

On the other hand this version of FSU is NOT one of the four best teams.  And while I felt they belonged in the playoffs due to their deserving record, that's not the way it played out, and as I have said prior, no, I would not have favored them over any playoff team, I just thought they deserved a chance.  But even that team that ennded the year is not the one we saw tonight.  They simply lost way too many guys to have a prayer against a team the caliber of Georgia that is not missing their guys.  And then I think in this actual game, as things started to go sideways, unfortunately they basically laid down once momentum really went against them.  Of all the things that transpired, that's the only one I care about.  THAT is what they have to stamp out.

When all is said and done, Georgia will be ranked #2.

They absolutely did. Like I just said in the post before yours, if their goal was four best, then there's no argument that Georgia was not among those teams.  If their goal was four most deserving, then there's no argument that Florida State was not among those teams.

Florida State needed this speech either before the game or at halftime by the great Bobby Bowden.

Partially so and not. With Texas beating Alabama and winning their conference, it was hard to not put them in. The other three were going with what they did.

FSU has frequently been dominant in who they have gotten in the portal in recent years.  For instance, FSU is considered one of the final two for Cam Ward and I believe the favorite for DJ Uiagalelei if they don't take Ward.  (Though I suppose we'll see if this game causes any changes) So while Brock Glenn isn't really who I found to be the problem tonight, they are likely to have a much better QB next season.  Norvell does well in the portal every year.

And therein lies the crux of the debate.   “Most deserving” or “best”.  
 

Regardless of which side you support, the notion that Georgia was ranked/seeded behind FSU after the regular season was buffoonery on the part of the Committee.

I would prefer a return to the old bowl system. But, we do agree..... what is happening now is not good.

Correct. Georgia should have been ahead of FSU based on the criteria they chose. But Georgia also should have been in the CFP based on the criteria they chose. There is no world where the four teams they chose are the correct ones.
