Trinity 14 Fredrick Douglass 7 (OT)

As a Trinity fan, I feel fortunate to have won the game.    From about mid-second quarter to the end of regulation, I thought FD was the better team.   Trinity's home side stands were as packed as I can ever remember.

Folks, that was a really, really good football game. If you didn't see it then I would suggest you go to the WDRB app and watch it from start to finish. A big-time slugfest between two fantastic

  • Safe to say these two squads are pretty evenly matched. Play this game 10 times and I think it’s probably 5/5 or maybe 6/4 either way.

  • For Trinity to win this game with their freshman QB struggling mightily against a fantastic Douglass defense tells you how Coach Cobb and his staff have partnered with the Shamrocks seniors to form a

Here is a stat I found that shows how tough Louisville area football has been. Douglass was trying to be the first team since 1991 in any class to beat Male and then a Louisville private school in back to back games.

Who was the last team to do that?

It was GRC they won the 4A that year. They actually on their way to the state championship they beat Male, Trinity in the semis I believe and the St. X in the Championship.

Didn’t Nelson Co win the 4A title in the 90s? Maybe they could’ve done the same.

If I'm not mistaken they beat Trinity and St. X on successive weekends (not sure of the order).   I don't know who they beat before that.   GRC had two great backs and ran the wing T to perfection.

They beat Trinity in the semifinals and X in the finals. They also beat Boone in the playoffs and that was when Boone was nearly in the same tier as X and Trinity. Heck of a run that year by Clark County.

It was Male.

According to the stats provided by Trinity on the KHSAA site they only had 135 total yards and Douglass had 225 total yards, but as we all know the only number that matters is the final score on the scoreboard at the end of the game.

Trinity has the ball in the red zone, GRC held on downs and then got two first downs to run out the clock. Was 28-20 - a great, great game.

And the finals was another great one. GRC won 28-21 and that Tim Hampton dude was a beast.

Yes, but the biggest stat was 0 INTs from Johnson.

He did not have a great game but was not picked off and the defense was outstanding when it needed to be. Heard a TV station saw Trinity had 10 tackles for a loss. The stats said 7 and 2 sacks!

Clark County beat Dunbar, Boone, Madison Central, Trinity, and X in the 1991 4A playoffs.

Male lost to DeSales in the playoffs that year.

For those following Massillon won today in Ohio over Hoban 7-2 was the score.  Cold, snow, rain, wind.

7-2….That is crazy. Good for Massillon.
