Hodge, Stone Look To Make Headway In Quarterfinal Rematch

Records: Central (7-5) | CAL (11-1)

BGP 3A Rankings: Central (#3) | CAL (#1)

Round 2 Results: Central beat Mercer County | CAL beat Elizabethtown

Series History: CAL leads 2-1 all-time

Teaser Preview: If you buy into the notion that defense wins championships and the declining temperatures of November constitute "real football weather", the campus of Christian Academy of Louisville might be your destination for Round 3.

Top ranked CAL and #3 Central boast the top two scoring defenses in Class 3A, which was reflected in the outcome of their regular season encounter. Cole Hodge slogged through his worst game of the season, and maybe his career, throwing two interceptions and a season low 113 yards. Despite that, the Centurions escaped with a 13-6 win behind their own stifling defensive unit, one that relented just 113 total yards to the Yellow Jackets.

Cortez Stone never got going, running for a season low 47 yards in thirteen carries.

The result triggered a reevaluation of 3A, as CAL could no longer be considered head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Perhaps they should have never been. This is Central, after all. And as I've noted before, November is "Jacket weather'.

The stars were dimmed last time, but Hodge and Stone enter in fine form at the moment. Is it asking too much for the defenses to do it again?

I know it’s obviously by seeding, but at minimum this game should be played as a semifinal. Should be a really good game, a lot of me wants to say CAL wins but Central very well could. Both are teams you don’t want to say will lose. Good luck to both teams.

Give me Central. They turn it up a notch come playoffs.

This is a hard one to pick. Central is just different in the playoffs. Good luck to both teams.

30-9 CAL in the poll right now.

I think CAL wins but would not want to play Central right now.

Central defense stiffens to force a FG attempt. Kick was good.

Hodge keeps it and goes 14 yards for a CAL touchdown.

24-0 Centurions

CAL is in total control. I don't know that Central can muster the offense to get back in this.

Justin Ruffin picks off a Central pass in Jackets territory at the 21.

Cortez Stone scores from eight yards out. Set up by a long catch and run earlier in the drive.

24-7 CAL
