Top Contenders For Team And Individual Hardware Convene In Louisville

Records: LCA (2-1) | CAL (3-0)

BGP Rankings: LCA (#2 in 2A) | CAL (#1 in 3A)

Week 3 Results: LCA beat Pikeville 31-13 | CAL beat North Hardin 49-21

Series History: LCA leads 8-6 all-time

Central Figures: This game has no fewer than three Mr. Football contenders. Both defenses will be placed under constant duress with Cutter Boley and Cole Hodge pulling triggers and threading needles. The Centurions may have a slight edge in depth at the receiver position, with Hodge's top three pass catchers back from last year. Connor Hodge, Justin Ruffin, and Darwin Cotton can spread a defense like few other units in the state. Parker Chaney and Saxton Howard are right behind them, serving as Boley's formidable receiver duo. We haven't even mentioned Brady Hensley, who may be the deciding factor here. He gives the Eagles a power house ball carrier to take the stress off of Boley. CAL doesn't have an answer for Hensley, with Hodge doing a lot of their ground work himself.

Quick Rewind: Boley left last year's game with an injury, watching helplessly from the sideline as CAL pulled away for a 49-14 win. It was not the cleanest night for Hodge either, as he was picked off twice. CAL RB/LB Gavin Copenhaver was a problem for LCA that night, accounting for four touchdowns as well as leading the defensive charge. His presence is the only glaring hole for this year's Centurions.

This is my game of the week. So far what I’ve seen from LCA I like them in this one on the road. Cal is the best team in 3A and won’t surprise me if they win. Lexington Christian is my pick to win 2A this year. They’ve looked really good up to this point.

Lca- 37

Cal- 31

The vote here is appropriately tight.

It's currently 30-28 CAL.

I think the score will be in that vicinity, as well. Hensley makes the difference for me. Everything CAL does runs through Hodge. Boley has the luxury of handing off to a Division I running back who is tearing it up so far this year.

Man LCA is playing one heck of a schedule...hats off to them and this has to benefit them in the playoffs. I can't pick a winner but I know this will be another heck of a game especially from LCA from what I've seen so far this year...this is so good for high school football..the best playing the best.

This is definitely a tough pick. There’s no doubt that LCA should be playoff ready with their schedule. I am more likely to pick CAL due to it being there, but I think LCA can definitely win. Wouldn’t be surprised which ever way this goes unless one wins by substantially more.

In focusing on the individual talent on the field, I neglected to mention CAL being the fourth consecutive #1 team LCA has faced.

I wonder if that's ever happened before? I'm guessing probably not.
