Class 4A

1. Boyle County vs. Gibson Southern (IN) (at WKU, 8/19)

2. Corbin vs. Cincinnati Hughes (OH)

3. Covington Catholic vs. 6A #9 Ryle

4. Johnson Central vs. 6A Madison Central

5. Ashland vs. 1A #2 Raceland

6. Bardstown vs. 5A #5 Cooper

7. Franklin County at 6A Great Crossing

8. Paducah Tilghman at 6A McCracken County

9. Logan County vs. 6A Warren Central

10. Warren East vs. 6A Daviess County

I think Franklin County moves up to the 5 spot. . Paducah Tilghman could be #5 as well.

Cov Cath will end up with Ashland or Johnson Central second round of playoffs. They will have a gauntlet to make it far.

Tilghman can easily be a top 5 team in 4A this year, especially with the two big transfers they picked up this summer out of Tennessee.

Easily? There are some heavy hitters at the top of 4A. What position do those transfers play?

This Class looks top-heavy in the East, with Boyle, Corbin, Johnson Central, CovCath, Ashland, Mason Co. and others all eliminating each other prior to semi-state, whereas in the West it looks like a PT, Bardstown, Franklin kind of thing. Am I reading that right?

I’m surprised Logan is 8th in 4A but Glasgow is un ranked in 3A and Glasgow pretty much dominated Logan in their scrimmage Logan couldn’t move the ball at all.

Honestly I would put them at 5th. I think the top 4 are ahead of the rest of the pack. One of their transfers is a 6’6” 290 lb. OL that’s been offered by Ole Miss, Michigan State and Kentucky. The other transfer is WR/RB/DB that has been offered by Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Clemson,  you name it. They both came from the same high school in Tennessee. Martels Carter is the Athlete and Jarvis Strickland is the OL. These two kids could really impact this team. We don’t see players like that in West KY very often.

I think Ashland is going to surprise some people.  I say that with the knowledge of them being ranked fifth.

So which of the top 4 do they compete with very well?  JC, Corbin, CovCath, Boyle or all of the above?

I believe both 3A and 4A have a lot of what-ifs ranked between six and fifteen. Probably won't have a clear understanding of the bottom half of each set of rankings until midyear, if not later. I'm sure there are a some teams floating in that range in both classes that will end up in the rankings by the end of the season.

As a Tomcat fan I was surprised to see them at preseason #5.  If they continue to progress at the rate they did last year then maybe by season's end they'll be worthy of a top 5 ranking. I'd love to see them be competitive with the top 4 but I don't see it happening this year. If they were still in 3A I would be a lot more confident in a top 5 ranking but that's water under the bridge....

I think Boyle is a clear number one. I could see Ashland competing with anyone else.
