  • Mayfield is also without one of their better players due to his mother sitting him out for disciplinary reasons.

  • Good job Mom!

Mayfield wins by as much as they want.

Graves handled Henderson pretty well last night in the scrimmage. Anyone know how good they are suppose to be? Graves hung with Mayfield for a half but had no real offense last year. I’m expecting a little closer game than many might expect.

Also important note: Graves lead back Dennis Marrs still looks to be out. Not sure he plays first couple of games. He’s a difference maker when healthy.

Henderson was a very solid team last year but from everything I’ve heard and read they lost a ton to graduation and are supposed to be down this year. It’s unfortunate because Mayfield is headed there this year and it would’ve been nice to see them against a good 6A opponent. Just a year too late I suppose.

Expecting the already up tempo offense for Mayfield to be even quicker this year. Plenty of scoring drives this season may only last 2 or 3 minutes. Graves wins time of possession, but Mayfield wins the scoreboard.

An official @WHO'S NEXT? sighting, welcome back!

Hmmmm, I’m glad it’s football time.

Is there anyone out that expects a close game.

I think Graves should and will try to control the clock but I just don’t see them staying within 4 TDs unless Mayfield turns the ball over multiple times. I am curious to see what kind of year Graves has though. Would be nice to see another team from West KY have a good year other than Mayfield and Tilghman. McCracken has really slid downhill these past few years. Would also like to see them get back on track.

Good to hear.

Games like this are normally like 415pm NFL games for me.  I always like it when I can catch a competitive late game.

Thank you for posting that.  I will be tuning in and I am very excited for opening night.

Graves had a down year last season for their standard but that standard is now a 6-4 regular season losing to a 6A state champion, 2A runner up, 5A Semi Final appearance, and a 3A regional champion appearance.  They have a winning record over the last 10-15 years against PT and McCracken so they have kinda put themselves in the conversation of being one of the better programs in the West if you were to ask me.  I think if you were to ask a lot of people who know football they would tell you that Graves is not a team to be taken lightly and they do more with less talent than a majority of programs in the state.

I agree with everything you said. They are not a bad program at all. I just keep looking forward to them having another breakout year but it’s tough to go deep into the playoffs in 5A with limited talent. I will say they always play a decent schedule out of district to get them ready for the likes of Owensboro and other big dogs if they make a deep playoff run.
