There may be some tenured drivers making $30, but nobody starting out is making that. 

Some people would say $21.69 is great and possibly as much as $27.69 is even better, but a lot of people forget, this is a split shift job that's drug out over the course of about 14-16 hours in the day, plus, if I'm not mistaken, they don't get paid during the 2 1/2 months in the summer.  Some get extra assignments and still get some pay during the summer, but not all do.

That's still solid money for that job...$27.69 with incentives is more than LMPD pays per hour starting out at $27.25 which includes $4,300 from the state. Louisville Fire Fighters make less than $27 per hour starting out as well.

Absolutely true on all of that. Still better pay than most jobs requiring so little training or secondary skills.

Back in the 80s at Beechwood if we were short a bus driver one of the coaches would drive the bus.  We never missed anything, ever.

Right, you adapt and overcome.

On a personal note, sometimes they let me drive the short bus at Beechwood.  It was one of those extended vans but we called it the short bus.

And knowing that schools should be prepared, especially JCPS schools where it is always something. 

Stories like this are another reason we need school choice.  Those players should be able to transfer immediately to another school and be eligible.

Happened in the 90s and early 2000s as well.  When I coached at Doss, one of the coaches drove the activity bus so after practices in the fall, he was responsible for taking the bus and driving the football players, volleyball players, etc. home who didn't have a ride.  When I coached at Seneca, our head coach, Lonnie Oldham, was the bus driver ?.  He drove the team to camp in the preseason and all of our games during the season.  You figured out a way to get things done back then.
