January 15, 200719 yr You're saying if someone could beat Louisville and they danced on the bird after the game none of their players and fans would get mad.Ha,they shouldn't have done it win or lose they are supposed to be professionals and thats a laugh too. I'm sure they would get mad, but that doesn't change my opinion of it. If you don't want teams to celebrate on your field, don't let them beat you. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes from a losing team to me. As was stated earlier, it's no more classless than Merriman doing the dance after every sack, which again, is something I don't mind. but, it goes both ways. Celebrating on someone elses field by mocking a celebration dance doesn't define whether someone has class for me personally. I get tired of these athletes acting like their family got robbed because someone "stole" their dance. Besides that, who knows what all the Chargers were saying during the game...maybe the Pats got tired of hearing it and made a point after the game. Of course, the biggest point was beating them on their home field. All I can say to San Diego is get over it.
January 15, 200719 yr Teams can celebrate but they are supposed to be professionals. The coach should have his team show a little respect after the game. Celebrating after a win is one thing but taking the time to go to midfield and taunt the other team is disrespectful and shouldn't have taken place.

Celebrating after a win is one thing but taking the time to go to midfield and taunt the other team is disrespectful and shouldn't have taken place. There are a lot of things in football that have the appearance of "no class" to me. TD celebrations, sack dances, constant in your face trash talking, trash talking and dancing around after a big hit, etc...that's just part of the game. It doesn't define whether a person, or team, is classy or not...I'd prefer to judge them by what they do off the football field to determine that. Maybe these NFL players should copywright their celebrations so they can bring a lawsuit against anyone who copies it...

I personally thought the Patriots would be above that but I don't see it as that big of a deal. If it okay for Merriman to do his dance over a quarterback that he has just sacked and if it is okay for him to taunt Jason Taylor over still being in the playoffs he should be big enough to realize that he puts a huge target on his back and that when other teams beat him he's going to get a dose of his own medicine. LT should realize that too, I've yet to see him take Merriman aside and tell him it isn't necessary to do his dance everytime he makes a sack, if he doesn't like being taunted he might want to start with his own team's attitude.

He wasn't taunting Jason Taylor. Taylor even said it. They are friends and he done it in a joking way.
January 15, 200719 yr I have no problem with the Pats celebrating and mocking Merriman, because all they were doing were celebrating a win over a team with a proven cheater...
January 15, 200719 yr He wasn't taunting Jason Taylor. Taylor even said it. They are friends and he done it in a joking way. Even if Taylor didn't take it that way pretty much the entire country (including a lot of other players I'm sure) did. He paints the bull's eye on his back himself.
January 15, 200719 yr I personally agree with LT. The Patriots and Belichek put out the image of all class and show otherwise. To have won championships before as they have I would think that they would apply the old attitude of "act like you have been there before" instead of "dancing" on the teams logo at midfield. LT also said in that pc that he gave the Pats credit, they were the better team in that game. He only cut them by calling out their actions after the game. Imo LT handled himself well in his statements, He had just lost a football game that would had put them in the AFC championship and wasn't very happy about it. Anyone that has played any sport or coached any sport I believe can relate. Way to go LT.:ylsuper: :ylsuper: JMO
January 15, 200719 yr The Pats did not show a lot of class when they drove and scored with under 2 minutes to go in a blowout over the Titans at the last game at LP Field. I know they wanted to let Vinny score a touchdown in his 20th consecutive season or whatever, but then they all celebrated and carried on. Considering the fact the loss eliminated the Titans and meant nothing to the Pats, it was more than a little tacky, IMO. The extra score did not go over too well in Nashville, that is for sure.
January 15, 200719 yr These guys are getting paid huge money to play a game, and then they cry and complain over any perceived slight. Get over it...the Pats won the game and they were celebrating and enjoying a big victory. Who cares how they choose to celebrate? This is ridiculous. I'd really pity these athletes if they had to live life like normal people...a few people dancing on a logo is a non-point. There is a simple solution: win the game and it doesn't happen. Especially when you were clearly the better team...
January 15, 200719 yr For someone (LT) who has always done things the right way since he's been in the league, there may of been more to this than we all think. Classless may not be the right word to describe what he felt, but obviously there's something there.
January 16, 200719 yr In defense (somewhat) of LT, they just lost a heartbreaker, some of the Pats players were in the middle of the field mocking the Chargers with the "Lights Out" dance, and LT was POd. I probably would have been right there with him. I might have regretted it later but I completely understand where he's coming from. You don't want to be mocked after a last-second heartbreaker. In a day in which players bounce around from team to team more than used cars it was nice to see such a great player defend his home turf. I would have been right there with him, probably receiving my fine notification today some time for decking somebody. As for his remarks I am not sure if they were warranted but if you feel that way than what the heck let it fly. The NFL needs some real rivalry these days.

I think the NFL has some excellent rivalries. The first to come to mind for me is the recent history w/ the Bengals and the Steelers. KC/Denver also has spurs some very hard feelings.
