The N. Ky. native is currently #8 in all time coaching wins, #7 if Bath County numbers are not included as it appears on KHSAA.

Well that is something. 

It sure is an interesting pick for a school on the rise in talent.

Is this is a surprise hire?  

From a Bath County prespective was he only there one year?  If so was it considered successful?  Looking at the KHSAA website they were coming off a 27-5 year in 2021-22 and didn't come anywhere near that in 2022-23 and took what looks to be a bad loss first game in the regionals.  But this is only going off of the data as I have no knowledge of returning players or anything else about Bath.

Bath had the 16th player of the year and still had a good year. This is an interesting hire because he hasn’t stayed anywhere long recently and has some new players everywhere he’s gone. He is the ultimate “win now” coach. Southern will have a good team returning and has been good at developing the next wave to come through. We’ll see if Wright is there long enough to keep that going or is just “win now”. 

I always thought the goal was to win now? If you got the players you should try and win now. Bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. Nothing is ever promised for tomorrow. 

It'll be interesting to see how it meshes together.  Southern has some talent and egos on the roster.  It's all about buy-in...

It is kind of wild that he spent so many years at South Laurel, then a whole lot of years at Southwestern, before now seemingly changing every other year. He's absolutely a great coach, but @LethalPG mentioned buy-in and egos, and if a coach is "win now" but not necessarily in it for the long haul then generating buy-in will be difficult.

Does he just keep a suitcase full of clothes in his trunk?

Sounds like a headache.  Selling and buying a new house.  Getting a new drivers license, changing your address on your taxes and all your mail.
