Do we have any "plant based" eaters here on BGP?

Featured Replies

Breakfast every day oatmeal with blueberries.

Lunch every day turkey wrap including spinach and carrots.

One cup of decaf coffee daily. One diet pepsi. Crystal Light tea the rest of day.

Dinner I limit red meat but I am less strict.

How many years am I adding to my life?

  • Good. More meat for the rest of us.

  • I do not do plant-based and that term can mean a lot of things. While there are some benefits, I have always felt it can devoid us of adequate protein and other valuable nutrients you cannot replicate

  • If you have good genes it won't matter, you will live a long time. If you have bad genetics it won't matter what you eat or how much exercise you get, you will simply extend your health issues.

With spinach on my turkey wrap. That is every week day. Yes, every day. Oatmeal every week day for breakfast.

I do eat different on the weekends.

I am an Oatmeal whore too, love the stuff.

It sounds like you eat pretty solid, as far as living longer, who knows...

I watched another "documentary" about the Pyramids last night.  Humans didn't build them and I agree they put things in perspective for us puny humans.

I don't look at it as punishment Mustang, if I feel better, look better, have more energy, and maybe live longer I think it is a win for me.  Generally speaking the better I eat the less I even have a desire to eat junk and as I have mentioned before I rarely eat out and sometimes when I do the amount of salt in the food shocks my system.

This is the part that I think a lot of people don't realize happens, particularly the feeling better part. There is quite a bit of research on the cognitive benefits of eating a "healthy", "clean" (or whatever you want to call it) diet. You think more clearly, have improved memory, recall ability, etc. Many common physical ailments up and disappear when you center your diet around whole foods (plant based or not).

Full disclosure, I'm primarily meat based with my foods.

Agree.

In addition to the testimonials from high levels athletes upping their game I have also heard testimonials from several obese people on all kinds of meds that started making miraculous turnarounds in health and coming off meds almost immediately after going on a clean (and most times a no animal proteins) diet.

So... I have been eating much cleaner for a few days and I just clocked a personal best on my "outdoor power walking circuit" and that was in 36 degree weather with wind in the teens bundled up like I was in the artic.  I have been timing myself on this circuit for three years.  Coincidence, who knows?

At least that's what I'm counting on.  ?

I couldn't disagree with you anymore than I disagree with this statement.

For sure.  How do you know if you have good or bad genes? And why not try to get the most out of what you genes you have, good or bad?

No doubt genetics are a big factor but good genes don't give anyone license to do whatever they want without consequences.

Good genes, or darn lucky.  76, 260 and still going "fairly" strong.

Doesn't say that I don't drop dead tomorrow, which would be OK too, or be diagnosed with some terrible disease.  Eating my favorite foods is one of my pleasures of life, and at this stage, I'm not depriving myself to squeeze out a few more years, because I am quite aware that it will be all downhill from here.

I do occasionally get the urge to exercise, but then I lay down until the feeling passes.
