Not trying to spin anything. If it seems that way then you have a different opinion than I do. We all are entitled to them. For someone to sit there and dwell on something like this is just petty especially not knowing all the details 1st hand. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that most of those Highlands Basketball parents and players didn't know Johnson posted that as you mentioned. Some maybe. But a quick Screenshot by their Professional Trainer trying to deflect responsibility on why Johnson even went there is not hard to imagine. Kind of Fan the Flames. And you're right. I use to think I knew Coach Listerman a little. And then he won a State Championship. LOL! Carry on with you Pot stirring.

Not stirring the pot. I simply asked a question as to how a coach thought this type of post on IG was appropriate.  Based on your last comment and the fact that you brought Nevels into the conversation, I would guess that you have an issue with Listerman and Nevels. If that is the case, maybe you should address it directly with them and not do what your WR coach did. I do not have a student athlete at Highlands but I do have a multi-sport athlete and I can tell you now that if my son's football coach made a comment like this after a tough loss in another sport, I would take issue with it and expect a public apology.

I get that you are trying to defend the staff here, but I want to understand perfectly what you are trying to sell: Johnson is mad at Nevels, so he used the downfall of the basketball team to take a shot at Nevels publicly on his page where all the Highlands athletes and parents would see it? While he coaches for Highlands rather than sending directly to Nevels or making mention that the post was about him. He even added the emoji of the Jags and Bluebirds on the post so there was no confusing what he was talking about immediately after the game ended. Your explanation makes Johnson look even more arrogant and selfish. My opinion as an outsider looking in.  Seems you have more skin in the game than I do.

Reading all of this back and forth, my biggest takeaway is what a shame it is that we're in an era where training/recruiting/making parents believe their kids are D1 future stars has become such a lucrative hustle/con-game and that some of these clowns who have mastered the "art" are allowed to continue to actually be a part of coaching staffs in the area.

I look back on guys like Lynn Ray, Dale Mueller, Owen Hauck and then look at the current guys that are setting the standard (Rash, Eviston, Niederman, etc) and wonder why anyone would allow that nonsense to infiltrate their coaching staffs?

Are these guys that choose to duke it out on social media worth it? How much is filling a coaching spot worth?

You are 100% correct, what a joke, but this is the world we live in today.

Gotcha. The "what happened to" part made me assume he thought Sphires was gone. ?

Yeah, I was thinking that Sphire left or something.  I’d assume Bob is ticked at Johnson, he seems pretty intense, at least he was at Catholic.

Coach Johnson no longer part of the Highlands football team.

Based on what I've read in this thread, I would say this was a good call by Coach Sphire. Drama like that around your program - particularly when it's stemming from one single position coach - is something you're best to do without if you can help it.

I was naive to the fact that I could hold my son back in Kindergarten so he’d be almost a full year more mature (physically at least) than his classmates in high school, naive enough to think little league baseball teams don't poach kids from other teams (even though my son was), and I’m now saying I’m naive to the fact that strength coaches are intruding on athletics at high schools to build their product. I’d assume the Highlands guys went to Nevels bc of his ties to the school and his place is like 3 miles away. Why would I send my kid to a trainer in Union, even if he’s my coach, when he could do the same in Newport? I guess money ultimately leads to all this pettiness. I guess, thank god, I’m Naive as they come.

Woops, you better be sure.

Yes he is still on Staff. According to my peeps he was there this morning at 6:30a.m at Workouts. @NKY-guy is correct. Coach Sphire has already addressed the situation with the School, Coach Johnson and Coach Listerman the very next Day after the post went out. I highly doubt a public apology at Town Hall which some are suggesting will happen. LOL!

So is Nevels Fitness offering the same specific Training that DI does? So you're telling me that Nevels has a WR's Trainer and QB Trainer on Staff? DI does more than make you faster and stronger. They're specific to all of what Nevels is offering and then more. And to answer your question with one of my Buddies simple answer. DI is Free to them to train at.

? Let’s stay on track here. How does a post about Johnson disrespecting the basketball program turn into a discussion about him being a better trainer than Nevels? What are you really trying to push here? My guess, you have some skin in this game too. Should Sphires be made aware another of his coaches is out on social media throwing more shade at Listerman & Nevels, for that matter?
