Trouble in Ft. Thomas? Highlands football coach creates bad blood with basketball coach.

I’m clueless on this, but is it the timing that makes this an issue here? There were quite a few NKY teams that lost in regionals and don’t train with CJ.

Exactly. There is some more back story to this I'm thinking. My guess Coach Johnson poorly used Highlands as his topic that night but let's be honest, it's being driven from something else. My peeps are telling me he is in a Social media war with Jordan Nevels. Who by the way is the exclusive trainer for the Highlands Basketball team. Was it really a shot at Jordan rather than Highlands? Jordan was the 1st person to call whoever he thought would listen when Johnson was hired on as the WR's coach in 2022 saying it was a bad move. Why? Tell us how you really feel. My guess Jordan is feeling an little uneasy about maybe Johnson might take some kids from Highlands and that Nevels feels the players should be only training with him. And vice versa. Again why? If I had several options for trainers, then I would make sure I was sending my Child to what was the best fit. I have noticed that all these trainers want to get in on the action once a Athlete is doing well. Like Willie the big WR from CCH. When Willie started garnering all the attention, all the Gyms around town started proclaiming that they were the ones that made it happen. Again, Johnson probably regrets saying what he said and I even tried to find the post myself. Apparently he has deleted his Acct. But this is being driven by another source. I am hearing Johnson is still on staff and will be coaching again this year at Highlands. This situation was addressed and taken care of the very next morning and both programs are moving forward. Maybe a not as tight as they once thought but moving forward. No one's perfect but through all of this no one has mentioned that there might something else here. Maybe just maybe. Just my two cents.

That's exactly what my thought process was behind this. I really didn't think it was a direct shot at the team but really at Jordan. Alot of kids who train with Jordan play 7v7 with Charles. So it's all just a big spider web of who is connected to who.

Right on. I highly doubt any Kid who trains with Jordan who plays for Johnson is going to say beat it to Johnson. They just want to get better and every opportunity they're given to do is a added Bonus. All the other Crap that goes with it is Hogwash. Just a bunch of Adult's feelings hurt over a simple misunderstanding and bad choice of words. Just my opinion.

Since when was Charles Johnson on Highlands football staff?

this past season was his first season.

Last I checked, Highlands didn't win a championship last year, and didn't even make it to the regional... So I guess the football team didn't train with him either?

Ik that was sort of a joke, but yea they didn't. They don't directly train with Jordan but a lot of the players do train with him. I think the bigger thing is that Charles trains a lot of Cooper players because he is based out of Union.

How did your son like/get along with him?

I think you are on the right track (as well as the others after you).

I am a big fan of Jordan Nevels, after all, Nevels Knows. ?

Interesting hypothesis.  This is the first time I am hearing the name Nevels brought up. If it was directed solely at Nevels, why would he put it up publicly for all the Highlands players to see and not just send it to Nevels or tag him int he post? So, plausible, yes, but sounds more like a big deflection at this point to try and defend Johnson.

Without revealing to much, the people I had dinner with have sons that play on the basketball team, so I am going with what they said. I choose to look at the post at face value. It doesn't even align with what you're claiming. "Coulda brought Johnson training in again if you wanted to win." I would assume that coaches, administration, and to some extent the parents, are the ones responsible for who is brought in to work with the teams. So again, how could that not be a shot at all of them? There is no way to spin this. I can tell you that's how the parents, coaches and players took it. To post it immediately after their season ended in a heartbreaker, is beyond classless and tasteless. Are you defending this nonsense? Your comment sounds more like PR disaster relief.  Why not just go and apologize to the entire staff, team and parents for publicly taking a shot at them?

Based on another conversation last night about this very topic with a similar group of people, I can assure you that the parties have not moved on. You must not know anyone who knows Coach Listerman like they do.

Scroll back a  few comments. Looks like someone from Lloyd said he did the exact same thing over there. Said he was very arrogant and divisive with their staff. The post in question speaks to his arrogance.

I am just an outsider looking in but the "Nevels Hypothesis" probably plays a part in all of this.  Generally speaking, when someone acts out there is often multiple factors involved.

Not trying to spin anything. If it seems that way then you have a different opinion than I do. We all are entitled to them. For someone to sit there and dwell on something like this is just petty especially not knowing all the details 1st hand. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that most of those Highlands Basketball parents and players didn't know Johnson posted that as you mentioned. Some maybe. But a quick Screenshot by their Professional Trainer trying to deflect responsibility on why Johnson even went there is not hard to imagine. Kind of Fan the Flames. And you're right. I use to think I knew Coach Listerman a little. And then he won a State Championship. LOL! Carry on with you Pot stirring.

If by "Nevels Hypothesis" you mean Nevels has gotten under Johnsons skin somehow, I would agree. I will add, that if that was the case, why not just tag Nevels or send it directly to him? It was immediately after the game ended on a platform where all the Highlands players could see it. Many people close to the situation and I, think its because he is just that arrogant and now bitter, that the team chose not to train with him. So he takes a shot at them and Nevels at the same time. I don't have a child at Highlands, I don't have a child that trains at any of these facilities. I will say this; when my son is ready to start working with a trainer, I will go with the one that stays away from the "public" chaos and chooses to put my child before his/her reputation. Johnson has not done that in this instance.

Gotcha. The "what happened to" part made me assume he thought Sphires was gone. ?

Because the goal is making more money, putting feathers in his cap, and stroking his ego, and "attacking" any third party in the moment does not accomplish that goal.
