I'll preface this by saying I don't know the reasons behind Greenup and Russell dropping Raceland, but the optics are bad. If they're running from a challenge, that's not how you get better.

Good for Raceland landing JC.  Danville doesn't carry the intimidation factor they enjoyed for decades, but that's still a quality pick-up. Raceland's doing everything it takes to get to that next level. It's coming.

I was disappointed to see the Rams and Paintsville split up. I've said for years that it's the best rivalry going in 1A.

I will say:

As a fan, I want to see the three county schools play each other every year.

As a school administer:  I would want to see these games each season for the gate alone.

As a head coach:  I would never want to play the other schools in the county because of the possibility of students leaving my school.

All I’ll say is this week the Highlands schedule is coming out.

  • Tough game for Raceland and I am glad to see it.

I have to say, I'm more than a little upset that the Highlands/Raceland game won't continue.

Highlands will indeed be playing Raceland on a 2 year Home and Home starting in 2023. The game this year will be Sept 15th at Raceland. Your wish is granted! LOL....J/K We are excited that Highlands and Raceland got this worked out. See you guys soon!?

That is great news and I am very impressed with Raceland stepping up against both Highlands and JC, wow.

Raceland is no longer playing Johnson Central. A week after Coach Salmons told one of our high school assistants that they will host JC this season on week 5 he informed them today that he already has an opponent for week 5. It looks like he had no intention of playing that game and was looking for another game the entire time. I guess he feels like he can compete more with 5A Highlands than 4A Johnson Central. So far JC has Madison Central, Pikeville and Ironton on their non district schedule. If this is the norm for the Raceland head coach it’s no wonder he’s always looking for games. I can 100 percent  guarantee that Raceland would’ve benefited more financially by playing Johnson Central that week than Highlands.

Unless something changes The Raceland Schedule will look like this for 2023 and probably 2024 with dates and times tbd.

Ashland - Away
Letcher Central - Away
Pikeville - Away
Highlands - Home
New Cath - Home
Hazard - Away
LCA - Home

Fairview- District

Nicholas County- District

Paris-District

That’s a real solid schedule. They should be battle tested when playoffs come around. Well done.

I agree.  Raceland must be very confident.

I think A lot of these Sr's next season were holdbacks. They had one class where most of the football class held back and I'm I'm not mistaking this will be them up and coming senior class.

I always heard that this Junior Class was supposed to be super seniors but heck they had the same amount of kids as this year's senior class in 16. So that was 32 juniors and seniors combined  and 26 Frosh and Sophomores combined on this past team.

16 Kids is Big Graduating Class for a year but 13 isn't too shabby.

The Rams are, in fact, hosting Lexington Christian on October 27th.

I’ll be visiting Raceland for the first time since 1996 this season it appears. Once you get out of Campbell and Bracken Co’s the drive down the AA is nice (being so close I’ve been through that stretch to many times to count) The facilities look awesome. Can’t wait for football season to get here. I agree with the schedule talk. Huge games there.

Awesome, I saw it on the schedule today.  I like this game on the schedule.

Well, I can tell you it doesn't look the same as it did in '96.  You will love it.  NCC on the schedule is exciting as well.  Some great games with these teams over the years.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with that schedule.  If Raceland comes out of this season 6-4, or better, it will be impressive.  Wow.
