That Kansas game seems so long ago….

Which also speaks to how fast tides can turn for the better or worse in college basketball.

  • Bama’s a basketball school and UK’s a football school  Start getting used to it.

  • On January 29, 2021, UK throttled Kansas, at Kansas by 18 (wasn’t that close and led by 30+), and many regarded the Cats as the best team in the country. They won their next four but chinks in the arm

  • Total embarrassment and that’s being positive. I don’t get how anyone can still defend our coaching staff and players at this point. Our offense is so simple to stop, double Oscar and make the others

Kentucky for whatever reason, loses all confidence shooting against good teams. The lack of having anyone they can count on to hit wide open jumpers has been devastating.

Yes, it would be great to run backdoor cuts for layups but until teams actually fear that they can hit a jump shot there is no reason to come off of a cutter to jump out on an open shooter.

Blame Cal, blame Wheeler, blame whomever you want but until more than one player per game can hit a jump shot this team isn't going to be very good.

Better shooting, will cure nearly every ill this team has.

Some of us folks has suspected these problems for a few years, it's good to see of folks finally buying in now.

Was more that some of us were trying to remain optimistic and find things to cheer for and try to keep treading water, but that's quickly becoming harder and harder to stay that way.

What sucks is, on paper, it was supposed to be a pretty good shooting team. Hope they figure it out.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve said “shooters over athletes” when it comes to hoops.

Wasn't this team supposed to have shooters?

Statistically, Kentucky is actually a good three point shooting team... the best in the SEC, actually. They were 12th but have dropped to 25th in the nation at 38.1%, averaging just 31% the last three games.

The reality is we have no idea of knowing if they are a good shooting team or not because the offense has been so putrid, most looks are abysmal or in desperation.

Yes and no. I'm sorry, I just can't get behind killing Calipari, Coach K, etc. for the weird COVID season. As bad as things ended last season - and it was brutal - UK was still a #2 seed. Season before COVID year they were going to be a #2 seed, and the previous season to that were a #2 seed. Trying to act like what is on the court this season has been the norm is simply not true, whether people want to admit that or not.

I'm not trying to kill Cal, it just appears it's time for him to move on.  I also think we had the same deal with Tubby.

It's just hard for me judge a seasons performance by what seed you end at.  Does it really matter if you're a 1/2 seed if you end up losing to a 15/16 seed.  Cal is not getting the same type players he has gotten in the past and it is showing.  Time for a change of scenery for both parties.

I've not done the math but I'd bet most if not all of the great 3pt shooting has happened against non-power 5 schools. They shoot like a different team against nonP5 teams.

I think it's time for him to go and all things have a shelf life, but he has the #1 class so far next year, was top 10 last year, #6 in 2021, #1 in 2020, #4 in 2019, all according to rivals. That averages to a top 5 ranking each year. Recruiting isn't the issue.

It is and it isn't. The top NBA draft players are not in college.

If losing to a 15/16 seed were the norm...

I believe evaluating a team's success, over the long haul based upon where they are seeded is a much better indicator of how a program is doing vs. how you perform in a whacky single elimination tournament. You have some teams that get the benefit of a draw and can avoid a top 5 seed all the way to a title game. Bizarre arenas at weird times of the day. The NCAA basketball tournament is exciting for all the wrong reasons, but that is for a another thread ?

But fundamentally I do believe a presence can go stale over time - at any job - for anyone in a leadership capacity.

To avoid not straying too far off topic, Bama is also pretty damn good. They have a solid mix of what you need to make a deep tournament run.
