Per Jason Frakes, who is spearheading this poll, each voting member will also rank the Top 5 boys teams and Top 5 Girls teams for their region each week.

Well done, Jason.

The new poll came about in light of recent floundering by the Kentucky AP to get things done with prep sports. Frakes tweeted this past Monday that there were only 4 voters in the January 2nd edition of the AP Basketball Poll, and that the AP was hoping for more voters following the holidays or else they would be ending the AP poll.

This is a superb group of veteran sports journalists. Every corner of the Commonwealth will be well represented. Taking on the responsibilities of long passed C-J sports editors - Yes, well done Mr. Frakes.

Why on earth would the Cincinnati Enquirer get a vote, they don't even cover the Cincinnati high schools?

James Weber has been covering NKY sports for the Enquirer for a loooooong time.

There's been a beat writer for the CE going back at least to the mid 1940's when Marty Kehoe was on staff

I understand all of that, just answer one question.  I still stand by my judgement, the Enquirer provides horrible coverage of any NKY sports.  Do you feel differently about that, I'm guessing you don't take the Enquirer.

Like most papers, the Enquirer is worthless, but in this case the value is James Weber who does a fine job covering NKY sports.

The Enquirer was crap for Northern Kentucky sports during most of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Case in point, for most of the Cov Cath state championship football games prior to coach Evsiton's tenure, they didn't even send a reporter to cover the game, relying instead on AP photos and postgame phone interviews with coaches to write their article covering the games. There were even years where Beechwood AND Cov Cath played in football state championship games where they still neglected to send a reporter.

After the Kentucky Post began its death-spiral, though, the Enquirer seemed to actually realize the need for reporting in NKY (or possibly saw the potential for added circulation in NKY) and started doing a really nice job of things covering Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties. James Weber has done a really strong job of covering prep sports in NKY, as did Ryan Ernst before he moved on from the Enquirer.

Perhaps I missed it in this thread, but when is the first poll due?

If I'm reading these tweets from Jan 4 correctly, this week.

I thought Evan Dennison no longer covers the 10th Region?

I know he still dabbles in the NKY end of the 10th but not sure about the rest.

Dennison is working for LinkNKY, which does already include Kenton, Campbell and Boone...so there is a minority of Region 10 teams there.

With the work he did at the Maysville Ledger Independent prior to taking the job at LinkNKY last month, Evan may well have been the most qualified man Jason Frakes could come up with to handle the 10th Region until the Ledger Independent gets a new hire to replace him.

They still have Evan listed on their website as sports editor, despite the fact that he's been gone for over a month, and they've had Ray Schaefer covering for them since Dennison's departure. Schaefer (who's a GREAT writer) is only working for them as a freelancer, if I'm not mistaken. Press polls usually seek out actual staffers as voters rather than freelancer writers.

I’m not with the Times-Tribune anymore. I own the 13th Region Media Network. The Times-Tribune and Sentinel-Echo has partnered with us to use our stories.
