I'm very surprised at this one, not that Madison isn't good.

This is actually something I expected could happen in KOB. Warren Central has had a habit in the past of laying a major egg in Christmas tourneys. Five years ago they were 8-0 and lost to Oldham County by 32 in their tournament. Most of the things they have done so far were completely absent today. Madison Central deserves credit - they took it to them from opening tip, defending well, hustling, and knocking down their shots. Warren Central struggled with their interior passing today, a major strength all year. And they just could not hit their looks from outside. They were typically good looks, just didn’t hit them. Is what it is. Helps that Madison Central is a good team too. 
 

My guess is that Warren Central won’t look as bad as they did today for rest of season. At least not before state tourney.

That was some bad basketball by WC. Got outplayed and out-hustled.

Madison Central winning isn't a surprise.  Winning in such dominating fashion is.

Madison Central is always a capable of winning but their record going into this game was 4-4. I’m about as surprised seeing this 17 point win over Warren Central as any score I’ve seen in a while.

Agreed. Madison Central shot out to an 18-4 lead and that was pretty much the margin the rest of the day.

Not all 4-4s are created equal though. Madison Central has lost to Pulaski County, Clark County, Ballard, and Collins who are a combined 33-5 (and Ballard beat Collins). This may not be a vintage Madison Central team but they are still very good.

Central can ball with anyone. They just are not very deep on the bench.

I would have been very interested to see what Warren Central might have done if they'd gone into the locker room down 7 or less.  That last second three to end the half was backbreaking, and shouldn't have happened.  It was a terrible turnover for WC, and an unbelievable shot for MC.  Plus, you can see on the tape that the official called for the clock to start as the ball was thrown away - ruling it deflected on the inbound -  but operator didn't start it until MC took possession.  Shot never should have even gotten off.  But it was a terrible turnover, regardless, and if ball was going to be thrown into the backcourt like that, they really shouldn't have even bothered.  It sapped momentum that Warren Central had built, halving their first quarter deficit.  Even with that, WC came out of halftime and immediately forced three consecutive turnovers.  But for their part, they turned it over as well, missed a transition three (on a 3-on-1 - wonderful if made, but not the safest play), missed another three, got the rebound, and missed a layup.  They very conceivably could have cut the deficit to 4-6 points right there (or even closer if not for that first half turnover), but after a minute and a half of the third quarter, had nothing to show for good defense and three good looks.  After rebounding a MC miss, they turned it over in the backcourt leading to an easy MC make, and then things got ugly very, very fast. 

The first quarter was really, really bad.  But IMO that roughly 1:35 stretch spanning the last play of the first half into the start of the third quarter is where the game became well and truly lost.  What I love most about what Madison Central did there is that they absolutely stepped on their throat after weathering those turnovers to start the quarter.  That's what a good team should do - don't let them hang around, ESPECIALLY if you know they're capable of playing better than they are.
