Regular season game?

Yes.

Louisville had two good shots on last possession but couldn't make them. Coach Scott Davenport of Bellarmine is great coach and Bellarmine going to be a factor again in ASUN Conference. Cards play Wright St. on Saturday.

About what I expected.  At times they looked good, at other times they looked dreadful.   Just going to be that kind of season.

"Show me that smile again...."   (Beginning of the "Growing Pains" theme, for those not old enough to remember that show)

I’m honestly surprised it wasn’t worse…

I was late to the party here.  I was chatting on the phone yesterday afternoon with a basketball guy and he told me if I wasn't doing anything last night that this game was on the ACC Network and Louisville would probably lose.  I laughed about it until he started telling me about Bellarmine and sure enough they held on at the end.  I thought a lot of the Bellarmine players looked like they would make good college football players.   Still, I am surprised by this result.

I was already old then.

Since my avatar started attending grad school at Bellarmine, I have kept an eye on them.  They joined the ASUN in 20-21.  Won the conference last year but was ineligible to compete in the Dance because of an NCAA rule that says teams can’t do so until their fourth year in D1.  That generated a lot of talk about changing that rule but I don’t know if it got any traction.   Seems to me that a team good enough to earn what would in other circumstances be an automatic berth should get that berth, but they don’t ask me.

in any event, this was Bellarmine’s first-ever win against a power 5 team. They may look like a pickup team at the local Y, but they’ve been together for a while and can play a little bit.

That is the discussion I had yesterday with someone I consider a hoops expert.  That rule doesn't make any sense to me.

Bellarmine has been good for a long time. Scotty D has built that program into the success that it is. He should have been the first call when Louisville fired Pitino, but here we are.

I have to believe he would been better than what the got.

I can say from this Cardinal fan's perspective, the last five years or so would have been much easier to stomach with him at the helm. If nothing else, attitude and effort would have never been in question, and that certainly has not been the case lately.

I know I've read some posts by @Deuce saying this roster is terrible.  Are there any bright spots?

I only watched the first half of the game, but I didn't see anything impressive on the UL roster.  Kenny Payne has his work cut out for him.   I guess James is probably their top guy.
