One of the things this shows that besides Boise State, this championship WAS decided on the field.

 

USC was in this game and had to win ON THE FIELD against UCLA and could not. They lost their chance ON THE FIELD.

 

Ohio State had a shot and lost ON THE FIELD.

 

Michigan had a chance in playing OSU and lost ON THE FIELD as well as the big loss to USC ON THE FIELD.

 

LSU lost ON THE FIELD to Florida.

 

For those of you who think well we didn't see USC and Florida play it out, we might not have seen that in a playoff either.

 

I like the point that was made on the radio this morning that those who tout the men's basketball as the model, this year's tournament showed that it is NOT about the best teams but about matchups and who is hot. Example, George Mason. I feel confident that they did not finish the season as one of the top 4 teams in the country but were there in the Final 4 because they had good matchups for their style and was hot at the right time of the year.

There are no valid arguments from anyone, IMO. I really thought USC was the best team in the nation and I thought they would beat OSU, but they lost their chance against UCLA. Period. Of course, after watching that beat down last night, I think it's pretty clear that Florida was the best team in college football.

 

Florida

1. They won the SEC.

2. They beat LSU (a consensus top 3 team, I think) head-to-head.

3. They completely and thoroughly destroyed the undisputed #1 team.

 

There is no way you can make a legit argument that anyone is better than the Gators.

 

I'm not really surprised that Florida won. This game had a lot of similarities to the LSU/Oklahoma Sugar Bowl...a favored team against an SEC champ that some people were overlooking. It was the way they dominated it from start to finish (almost, minus that kickoff return) that surprised me.

 

OSU - 85 yards of offense...Troy Smith 4 completions for 35 yards...are you kidding me?

The camera angle was there. To many loopholes in the wording of the rule. If you and I both saw it as well as many others I am sure that one of several thousand cameras saw it as well.

As you and I both said the calls or lack therof are mute points. Fla. kicked their behinds, plain & simple and this Buckeye fan makes no excuses for getting whipped.

 

I'd call it a wash...because it wasn't anymore obvious than the hold on Reggie Nelson that sprung Ted Ginn for the opening TD. Otherwise, the Buckeyes likely wouldn't even have cracked double digits.

I agree. Like I said, it is part of the game. The Buckeyes could have held with both hands on every play and it still would not have slowed down the Gators last night. Meyer had them ready and they executed to perfection on both sides of the ball. OSU had no answer.

Also, I guess I owe Jamarcus Russell an apology. :lol:

 

I was critical of his performance against the Gators, but after seeing what they did to the Heisman Trophy winner...:eek: Wow!

My favorite stat of the game is that Troy Smith was sacked 5 times and threw 4 complete passes.

I'm really shocked at how lost and overwhelmed the Buckeyes looked last night.

 

Florida's speed was suffocating. It was impressive to see the D-lineman for Florida repeatedly run Troy Smith down...he hadn't seen anything close to that this year, so he wasn't prepared for it when he did.

I was also impressed with the FB for the Gators. I don't think he missed a block all night and continually drove his man 5-7 yds deep.

Yeah...Florida was on it's game. Meyer had a great plan on both sides of the ball, and from what I saw, they executed it as close to flawless as possible. Also, Leak was so poised...consider how many times he just threw the ball away instead of forcing something and making a huge mistake. As hot as he was and as good as things were going for the Gators, it would have been easy for him to take some chances and press his luck and make a mistake....Florida mistakes were basically the only chance OSU would have had. Hats off to the Gators for executing, playing smart and not opening the door for any kind of big momentum swing.

It's because the Buckeyes are so adamant about being THE Ohio State University. But maybe you mean tO$U? I think it's pretty obvious.

Florida dominated this game! I have never seen a #1 ranked team look so inept. I feel that the Gators were more responsible for this. Speed, speed, everywhere. UK had a better showing than this against Florida. I guess the Cats are not so bad after all.
