Hard to say.

I believe the talent is down but will improve.

@El Diablo, Highlands is one of those programs always forcing the Kool-Aid on everyone involved and when you do that it is hard to be honest/see clearly sometimes.  Don't worry, we don't fault you, but we do get a kick out of it from time to time.

Pointing out clear differences in talent isn’t being a hater, it’s being realistic. Cry me a river, big man. ?

Anyone with ANY objectivity can easily come to the realization that the talent at Highlands has been down in recent years. Not no talent, just down. Seems like some of the moms and dads of recent Highlands classes don’t agree, which is to be expected.

Not sure who you are looking for to admit that, but all the diehards I know will agree that the talent isn't what it once was. Not many programs can sustain the kind of success they had during the glory years. The point from the faithful I know and hang with question the use of the talent that was there. Even people, you know like at the paint store, outside the program, use to ask me "whats up with that"? All I could do is just shake my head.

When you don't have the numbers or talent to support a platoon system, then you adjust. That's where the previous regime failed and refused to play kids on both sides of the ball. There was plenty of talent to not go 3-8 and lose to the teams they lost to. Yeah every once in awhile, you lose a bad game. But they had way too many bad losses.

There you have it I guess if that's what you are looking for!

I think if we look at talent and the top programs, the difference is just a few players. When a team like Highlands, Cov Cath, Beechwood, etc. has D1 level athletes, it takes them to the level of greatness. Programs like that always have a lot of very good players who buy into the program. They are always going to be solid, winning teams. What has been lacking for Highlands IMO is the D1 level studs who take the team to the next level. Does Highlands win the title in 2014 without Beau Hoge? I don't think so. He accounted for over 4,000 yards offense. Add in an athlete like Alex Venneman who was one of the fastest players in the state and went to WKU. Still an excellent team they don't win the title without Hoge and talent like Venneman.

I think it has happened to Cov Cath the past few years also. Heck Michael Mayer single handedly won several big games for Cov Cath. By single handedly I mean he was the difference in the game. He made plays that no one else could make and took the team to a higher level. If he wasn't there, CCH loses those games.

That is the difference between good and great. That is the talent that was there in the past and isn't there now.
