Beechwood defense was crazy good last year…sounds like they will be again this year. They will be a tough out for sure, but we have beaten teams who were supposed to beat us many times ( see Beechwood v Mayfield 2009). Mad respect for the red and white Tigers, but lets not get the cart in front of the horse…at least not yet. ?

I think it’s a 3 horse race, with Mayfield charging the finish line with LCA and BW.    People are very blinded by the loss of Hergott for BW. He meant a ton no doubt, but Defense wins titles.

  • That guy looks pretty tough but I haven't seen him in awhile.

I would like to see Mayfield and LCA go at it in the semi-finals.

Im sure you would. ?

Beechwood has a pretty good scrimmage coming up against Cooper.

In what world was that 2009 Beechwood team supposed to beat Mayfield? Mayfield won 38-0. That Beechwood team was 9-5..

You must have your years mixed up because that 2009 team was one of the worst teams Beechwood has fielded from 1990 to present.

I will come to GBR's defense on this one. I remember that year and most of the Beechwood supporters on BGP felt like the Tigers would win. Yes, Glider and hector, that Beechwood team was not one of the Tigers' best record wise (9-5) but the 4 losses before Mayfield were to Dixie Heights, Highlands, Covington Catholic and New Cath and the Tigers were fresh off back to back titles. It is easy to see why Beechwood fans expected to win. I doubt others outside of Ft. Mitchell expected the Tigers to beat a 1 loss Mayfield at Mayfield, but the Ft. Mitchell faithful did.

The only one of those games that was competitive was New Cath, the rest were not competitive. Beechwood also squeaked by Holy Cross that year.

And that’s just asinine to say when Beechwood had 9 seniors that year, in which only about 4 had significant playtime the year prior.  Anyone who watched a second of film saw a huge disparity between the teams.

I hear you. But the fact is the Beechwood fans on BGP expected a Beechwood win. That's where GBR is coming from.

One more thought to add, calpreps.com project a matchup:

2009 Mayfield 35     2009 Beechwood 21

The lopsided 38-0 final that happened was much more than even the computer expected.

VOR is correct. You guys need to dial up the 2009 pregame thread…just look at the poll…read the posts. ?

If it is a 3 horse race, which I'm not certain it is, the RPI is going to be a huge factor. 2 of these team will have to play each other in the semi-finals.

Regardless of RPI with any scenario of a three team race, two of them will have to meet in the semi's.

I'm not sold that anyone can compete with LCA and Beachwood. Green co has a very athletic class. One of the  best running  duos in the state. Houchens and Seymour a proven rushers. Mayfeild has a very athletic class. The running back is talented as well as the QB. If Green or Mayfeild continues to improve passing game to go alone with with rushing game they would have a chance to beat anyone with a little luck and near perfect game.

And once again…that 2009 team was one of the worst teams Beechwood has fielded in recent history…no 4 star players…very little experience…nothing like what this years team will bring.

I'm going to give it one more try, hector, because I like you. The whole point is NOT how good or how bad the 2009 Beechwood Tigers were…history will put them in their proper place. The point is that the Beechwood FANS who post on this site believed that the 2009 Tigers would handle Mayfield in that game. And that was why I included that particular game in my original post. Ok, thats a wrap.

By the way, when the Cardinals are out of the playoffs and Beechwood is still in…I'm a Tiger fan. ?

Guy, I really don’t care who you root for at anytime so miss me with that.

You brought up 2009 as if the circumstances are the same. Beechwood fans may have had delusion and entitlement after back to back championship seasons, when in reality they lost just about everyone from those teams. This year the delusion is warranted given that the major factors coming back and coming in. I know it’s hard to believe but Hergott was not the only player on the team the last couple of years. Don’t bring up the past if you don’t want the context.

Here's the thread in question from 2009. Beechwood handily won the poll by about 30 votes, but most of the thread predictions favored Mayfield. Hopefully this puts it to rest.

On to the 2022 versions of the Cards and Tigers. I, for one, am hoping Mayfield makes this a three horse race. The jockeying for position between Beechwood and LCA has been fun the last two years, but both have turned the page on a lot of the stars from the last two seasons. And it's interesting watching Mayfield try to come from off the pace. We don't see this often.
