The one thing to watch is those wins over the bigger schools are weakened by their own overall records. They may be bigger schools but only one team on Mayfields schedule has a winning record. Multiple teams are winless and some of the higher class wins have lost to lower class opponents.

Just something to consider

Yes. That's what gives me pause on saying Mayfield cannot be caught in RPI. We are only half way through the season. Wins and losses in those opponents categories can have an impact.

Question and hopefully a clarification. If you lose to a team, you get zero points.  For example, Beechwood lost to Covington Catholic. They will get zero points. It does not matter if Cov Cath has a great record, Beechwood will get zero points from that game due to the loss. Is that correct?

I think it’s a 3 horse race, with Mayfield charging the finish line with LCA and BW.    People are very blinded by the loss of Hergott for BW. He meant a ton no doubt, but Defense wins titles.

  • That guy looks pretty tough but I haven't seen him in awhile.

I believe that is correct and I have also seen teams lose RPI points for wins against really bad opponents and out of state teams.

Mayfield's OOWP is really really bad as compared to LCA and BW. Their SOS is nowhere near that of BW. Arguably LCA has the toughest SOS based on our out of conference schedule. Now, LCA will enter November 7-3 or 6-4 while BW will enter 9-1 and MF highly likely at 10-0. Projected OOWP for LCA is 59 - 41. BW 54-46. MF 39-61. Mathematically assuming BW doesn't implode they have already sealed the #1 RPI in 2A. The battle will be for 2 and 3 with a long bus ride for someone. With that said LCA has not done themselves any favors the last 2 weeks largely due to the injury bug. Good news is none of those injuries are season ending and the buy week is just around the corner.

Looking at this, I may be wrong in comments above. Mayfield may not end up #1. I am surprised Beechwood is this close after the Cov Cath loss.

I will start a 2022 2A RPI Tracking thread tonight.

Beechwood didn’t take a significant hit in RPI rankings because Cov Cath jumped to 2nd in RPI for 5A.

Thank you VoR!

LCA's apparent vulnerability earlier in the season cracked the door open for someone to break up the Beechwood/LCA party. Berger's injury has, at the very least, pushed it open a little more, if not kicked it all the way in. The rest of the field - particularly Mayfield - has to feel better about their chances of gate crashing at Kroger Field.
