Looking at box scores, I am guessing Matt Miller starts for St. Henry. Beechwood, Sam Stacy or Sam Cottengim?

Anything can happen on a given day in baseball. But we can say for certain that Beechwood's first round game getting bumped to Saturday is a disadvantage for the Tigers.

To close the loop on this thread, here is summary from game thread:

Beechwood wins their 3rd consecutive 9th region championship. Sam Cottengim starts and gets the win. Sam Stacy pitches the last 2 1/3 innings for the save. Key hit in the game was a 3 run HR by BW 3rd baseman Jackson Roseburrough in the top of the 4th  that turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 Beechwood lead.

Beechwood 1B Tanner Jackson was tournament MVP.

In a tournament filled with the unexpected, yes Beechwood was the one team that did as expected. 

The title game was much closer than the score indicates.

St. Henry jumped on top 3-0 in the first inning and was leading 3-1 in the 4th when Roseburrough hit the 3 run HR.

It was a 5-4 game, Beechwood leading in the top of the 6th. The Tigers scored 2 runs with two outs to go up 7-4.

Then in the top of the 7th Beechwood put the game away with 5 runs keyed by a 2 run HR by Brett Holladay.

I know I mentioned before, however I just really like their chances to win it all this year. 

Just curious as too when they changed dates on this tourney.  I seem to recall for a number of years they didn't even have the first rounds until Memorial Day.

They have the pitching depth. They have a top notch #1 in Berger. The lineup is solid from top to bottom. The bottom of the order was excellent in the regional. The #6 hitter was the regional MVP. Defense was a little shaky in the regional. That will come back to bite you in big games. You can't give good teams extra outs. Boyd is in a bit of a slump so it would be nice for him to get back on track. I agree they could win it all but you have to be on top of your game and get some luck to win a state title. We saw in the All A that totally unexpected weird things can happen in baseball. Pikeville's #9 hitter was a below .200 hitter at that point in the year and he went 4-4 against Beechwood. After the Beechwood win, Pikeville went 3-5 in their next 8 games. But they beat the Beechwood in that All A semifinal. That's baseball. Yeah, we can like their chances but you just never know in baseball.

The biggest thing going forward will be pitching depth. Berger is a clear #1 pitcher, but when do you use him? It’s survive and advance but what game in the tournament do you want to use your best arm? Berger has looked the most consistent all year on the mound, while the rest of the starters have done well majority of the season, there’s been some lapses. If the Tigers can have all their starters, and their relief up to par they will be hard to beat. I don’t fear the offense being the problem, I fear it being the pitching. This is when you need everyone at their best.

IMO you use him the very first game and go from there. The last thing you want to do is not use your best pitcher, and end up losing  while never even getting to use your best pitcher. The only game you should be worried about now, is the next game. Can’t really worry about any games after that, because those games don’t matter if you lose before then. 

Owensboro Catholic is 30-4. Berger starts this one.

I’ve seen too many teams get themselves beat by thinking ahead. You use your best in the first round. There is no second game if you don’t win the first one.
