Confirmed today by someone within the CCH program, Zion Mason left CCH and has transferred to Princeton. According to them, he has been practicing with Princeton for a month now

Zion will be missed, 3rd school in four years. Really sad how that is now so common.

What were they preseason last year? I’m not sure I would take a victory lap if they were lower than 12-15 considering they won 9 games, worked the 3A champs and beat a top 6 or 7 6A team. Obviously way worse than the peak Mayer teams, but still a quality Ky team.

I would disagree that they lost a lot. IMO they lost 2 impact players in Agee and Zion. They lost other good role players like Sullivan, Wilson, Hummel and Dietz, but that’s how it goes in high school. They’ve had a ton of attrition at the skill positions with transfers, but I can’t imagine there being 29 better teams in the state. I think 15-18 is reasonable and they could jump up depending on the development of the skill guys.

I heard Covington Catholic beat Cincinnati Moeller yesterday in 7 vs 7.  I didn't hear a final score but did hear it was by a couple of touchdowns.   I know 7 vs 7 is basically flag football and significantly different than the real thing, but it does show that where they struggled passing the ball last year, this year might be a different story.  Fingers crossed it's a sign of good things to come.

I was just talking with another "Cov Cath guy" about it, and both of our takes (from the sofas at home) is that all things equal, start Evan Pitzer as a junior over senior Zac Roberts simply for the sake of having the potential for a two-year starter.

I haven't been very good at following the JV team the last couple of years, and admittedly I hadn't heard Roberts' name mentioned until this spring, but apparently he and Pitzer were both JV quarterbacks until Pitzer's shift to varsity, and then Evan's concussion in the Highlands game. Oddly enough, Roberts didn't appear on either the 2020 or 2021 KHSAA rosters for Cov Cath although he was playing JV ball both years.

I think you will see Roberts at linebacker more than you will QB.  He's a big strong kid that seems to have a good head on his shoulders.  He'll be on the field quite a bit, but probably not at QB.

Robert’s actually transferred schools last year (can’t remember if it was end of summer or early season) but I believe it was late summer. 
 

He transferred to Beechwood, for quite literally a week or two, if not just a few days, then came back and was “suspended” from playing until after season was over. Therefore saw no action, and I’m can’t exactly remember all the fine details on it, but I know that is the reason for his name not being on the roster.

Would be more beneficial to the team as Roberts has the ability to play more than one position, as Pitzer is a QB only guy.
