Oscar Tshiebwe Wins John R. Wooden National Player of the year Award

Featured Replies

Congratulations to a fine young man on his award. Oscar is the 2nd Kentucky player to win the award (Anthony Davis).

Also, Tshiebwe is the first unanimous winner receiving all the first place votes. Very well deserved!

One hell of a year for Oscar.  I’m hoping for a repeat next year.

Huge Congrats to Oscar, very solid year.

Impressive! And well deserved.

Congratulations to Oscar and a well deserved award. Being the first UK consensus Player of the Year is phenomenal!

Its a real shame they can't get everything NIL sorted out for Oscar. I can only imagine how much he could make.

Any direct references or inferences to political terminology and activities, (e.g. - government, Democrat, Republican, GOP, White House, Capitol, conservative, liberal, campaign, lobby, legislature, bill, legislative process, filibuster, caucus, etc) and anything else deemed political in nature by the BGP staff is also prohibited from the site. Likewise, this also includes 3rd party links to articles that are political in name or in nature. Additionally, the use of names/nicknames deemed by the BGP staff as references to political figures (e.g. - Andy, Donald, Tricky Dick, Slick Willy) will not be permitted on BluegrassPreps.

Keeping in mind BGP's core purpose as a sports-discussion community, discussion of the the managing bodies specifically serving over high school, college, amateur, and professional sports leagues (KHSAA, NCAA, IOC, MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL et al), along with the officers, officials and the titles held by the individuals within those organizations is permitted on BGP. Similarly, high school and college/university administrators and officials, when discussed in a strictly non-political manner, are all permissible on BGP.

From what I've heard, he's not entitled to the NIL money because he's not a US citizen.

I read something about that, hopefully that gets worked out soon.

Since players get paid now they need transparent representation.

Up until I believe like early February (I think), he wasn't allowed to collect any NIL money because he isn't a US Citizen and here on a visa for school.  Something changed for him in February where he could start collecting on NIL but not like all other players.

I read something the other day that said he isn't allowed to do anything that would constitute work (e.g. photo shoots, commercials, autograph signing tour and etc.) because that would essentially invalidate his visa and he could be deported.  He could only make money off of people buying Tshiebwe shirts from KY Branded or something but he couldn't be involved in the process at all.

Things were so grey for what Tshiebwe could and couldn't do, the UK Compliance Office essentially shut down any NIL stuff for him to protect him until it got figured out.

That's the jist at least.
