Open Job: Dixie Heights

Roddy Stainforth is stepping down as head coach.

Initial word from what I'm hearing is that assistant coach Chad Fields is the likely candidate as next head coach for the Colonels.

One has to wonder if the powers that he will - as they did on the football side - do the wise thing and explore all options before making the easy quick one?

Surprised by this departure. Anyone know why Coach Stainforth stepped down? Did a heck of a job during his tenure. Thought he’d be here for the long haul.

Yes, surprising.

I think more and more we will see coaches serving shorter tenures than years ago. It's year round, expectations are higher than ever, and after a while not as much fun as it once was. It's what I call the ESPN effect lol.

Coach Stainforth is an assistant principal at DH and has a growing family. I think this has been in the works for awhile. I'd expect coach Fields to be announced.

Just a guess, but if the KHSAA passes the free transfer rule, I’d say we’ll see quite a few coaches hang it up. Especially some of the older school guys.

Yes, this news was pretty rampant around BB&T during the 9th Region run for the Colonels, that he was going to step away from coaching to spend more time with his kids.  I'm a huge Roddy fan and wish him all of the best, I'm sure he'll be on a sideline again down the road -- he is too good of a coach not to be.

Chad would be a great choice, no one loves Dixie more, and he has a great basketball acumen and relationship with the kids in the program and the middle school programs that feed Dixie.  Chad will be awesome!

Why is that? My first thought is free transfer would be good for a well established successful coach. Although, I guess you are saying old school my way or sit, poor communication type of coach. If that is what you are saying, good riddance.

Hold up a minute.  So, in your second thought, you're saying let the inmates rule the prison?

You bring up a good point, our children are not "inmates" and they deserve a choice.
