2007 Beechwood

Enough you two. Take it to PMs if you must.

quick, my point about the passing this year has nothing to do with the past. The point I am making is Beechwood will probably be unstoppable as a running team (against 1A teams) but that shouldn't stop them from being balanced no matter how seductive the run will be.

3pt, you are stating the problem with JV football, Beechwood needs to be working on the solution right now and not wait until the season only to find out half their schedule either can't or won't play them.

I agree with your point--and had a good idea of where you were coming from up front. In all fairness to O-Coordinator--he is as balanced as I have seen (I am sure they are more--but he is "instinctively" balanced). He has a knack for it--and the offensive coaches he works with have a similar thought process. I am close to it--so naturally it is easy for me to feel good about it. Not to mention--he is a former QB--and QB's love to throw the ball.

I think that some of the offensive weapons (receivers) will make it hard to keep the ball on the ground. Joe Daniels will turn some heads--and I have a feeling that Slusher will get the ball more--pass and run. Not to mention ... Elliott is dangerous with his arm and his legs.

Matter of fact ... I agree with pretty much everything that you said. I would still like to play Alter--simply because they are the type of team that you REALLY want to hit in the mouth (often)--but playing them back to back with CovCath is rough--and probably not the best idea in the world.

The JV situation is tricky ....... even if plans are firmed up now--you run into teams during the year who pull out for whatever reason. From there ... you get into coaching politics. It may not be right--but a lot of these coaches are not going to blackball their peers (in the future) because they don't play a JV game this season. I agree that the kids need to play and get experience. But refusing to play a team anymore probably isn't the right answer. I like what Highlands, T, X, CovCath have done--they aren't scared to travel a little bit to play (which is tough)--but it is an outside the box thought process that probably has a big payoff.

Beechwood has always scheduled the district teams in JV, that is the problem. They schedule the games in advance only to find out too late that they will not have enough to dress a team. Usually w/the JV schedule, whoever the V plays on Friday night the JV will play on Sat morning. The last couple yrs our freshman have played a few of their games against a mix of JV/freshman players just so they will have a game. In this case, no 8th grader can play against the older kids(soph).

It boils down to a numbers game for a lot of the smaller schools. They can't play JV in fear of someone getting hurt which leaves the V short of players for practice and sometimes games, therefore, they do not play a JV game.

Though we are losing most of our line to graduation, the linemen coming up are used to playing together since pee-wee days. They should gel well together and hopefully, with a little footwork training, be quick, mean and strong.

I have no clue how I (and others) have made it this far without utilizing that gold nugget you just dropped on us ........... I feel like I have been touched by an angel.

With this vast knowledge ... you may want to consider a career change to football coach.

Again--this is what I get for going back and forth with a football genius.

No matter how condescending your posts may be, Beechwood still needs to be able to throw the ball more proficiently against the better teams next season, if they want to reach their full potential.

Guru is right that they can probably still beat all the A teams next season without throwing a pass.

Nice offer but not feasible.

Why not? While I realize that Beechwood has been hurt financially (if that's what's not feasible) by the wonderful SEEK formula, but so has Highlands. We still make trips to Lexington, Louisville, Boyle County and Scott County for JV games. Heck if we can afford it, so can the Tigers. What about playing some of the Cinti teams in JV as an option also?

1. One team was able to throw the ball against Alter (that was defending state champion--who went on to beat Alter to win their 30th game in a row). I am not even going to go into the fact that everyone they played except Steubenville had a hard time moving the ball on their 1's.

2. I didn't see any team that was great throwing the ball against CovCath (and I didn't see them when they played the Ohio teams--but they were still solid)

3. I agree with your statements when you point to the 2nd NCC game.

If you can find any teams that did a great job of throwing against the first 2 .... you are a better man than I am.

You still act like you have some clue as to how much Beechwood threw the ball. We were both at the same place (at least a couple times) at the same time. I know how those games broke down after they were finished (if you want to get down to it--we can break it down by team--by quarter). It would probably serve you better to watch the tape or something.

If we are talking about the FUTURE (and yes--I did see the next season part)--I AGREE with your point. I have a feeling you are treading where the boss told you not to go (and did a good job of trying to disguise it) .......... But when it comes to the past--the point is--you have no factual data to back up your point. I do ............ accept it.

You must have missed the CovCath/LexCath game then.

Beechwood will not travel more than a hour to play a JV game, never have never will. If you read my earlier post the problem is Beechwood schedules the local teams(district teams) and they always cancel due to numbers. This makes it almost impossible to find someone to play at the last minute because the other schools already have their schedules made. What needs to be done is to not even schedule the district schools due to past cancellations and schedule the bigger schools if they can fit them into their schedule somehow.

I agree that the JV needs to play to get the experience but I don't think it is a main concern.

Yes .... I did .... and I am obviously wrong about that one ......

I agree with Guru, if a school's JV team drops a game (unless it's due to extreme circumstances) then refuse to play them in the future. I am sure with the 60+ schools just across the river someone may have an opening and willing to play, a lot of the bigger schools have A and B JV teams so that will possibly add to the availability of a team.

A 10 game schedule every year for the JV team will create more interest out of the younger players, they see more games = more playing time, which gives them more plays in the system which will lead to better varsity players.
